Forums - Sales - Switch Sales Jump, PS5 and XS Sales Up Year-on-Year - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for Oct 30-Nov 5

Switch hits a home run, a very decisive win.
It's closing in for the kill now with PS4, just a few more weeks.

i don't think the switch's sales have been so high since the latest reports show that it lost in the United States and Europe

This week here is October 30th-November 5th. Those reports are for October. The month of October, not a specific week and especially not this week.NPD didn't count October 30th in there. The Pokémon OLED released in that week. Obviously Switch sales were up. In Spain and Japan we even got exact numbers.

What exactly do you think the Switch sold in this first November week?

The adjustments that I am seeing in last year and particularly in this year and not so small. Going back 2021 year was originally estimated as 25.2M and now is 24.7M. This is 500k down. Which is not also big difference but it's something. However this year there were adjustments almost every two weeks or so and every time I remember switch is adjusted down. And every time it is doing around 300k weekly for example 1 month down the line when I check it is 250 or 270k not the originally 300k. There was week that was close to 450k. Now the same week is 390k.

This is not me saying anything about the work you are doing, or the estimates, don't take me wrong here. The site is pretty accurate and estimates are almost always just on point with negligible differences.

I am just saying that by history, I am doubling down that Switch will just get adjusted down (as always) and this specific week (as probably other to follow) will be adjusted down to between 350 and 380k. It may happen 2 weeks from now, month from now, or at the quorter report. Or most likely gradually. 2 weeks from now will get adjusted down by 20k, then 20-30k more and then 1 more till it get's to finally total of the range I just gave. (after maybe the quorter report in early february).

I just say this because some people look and remember every week sales level and after some time they remain dissapointed when they see the final lower than expected numbers. And I just explain why it is that way, and why they may remember all summer long switch weeks around 300k each, and when you go now and see almost all of the weeks are under 300k and most of them going in the 240-260/270k range.

Anyway if I have to bet about let's say the PS5, I think (based on history by now) it will be adjusted up.

Actually from what I know, VGchartz estimate was lower than the actual data comparing it to the recent quarterly report we had. We had it at 113.49 million Switches sold by end of September, but the actual number was 114.33 million. So instead of adjusting down, it should be adjusted up. In general, every console might have to be adjusted slightly up.

VGChartz estimates are not for shipped numbers. It says that at the bottom of the article.

I am guessing the Switch will surpass the PS4 during the week of Cyber Monday and just miss it the week of Black Friday.

I see my bad then I guess VGchartz is pretty accurate looking at the sell-through bar graph on the report

For the next hardware update that is for the God of War: Ragnarök launch week here are the UK charts:

God of War Ragnarok UK Launch Sales Bigger Than Modern Warfare II, Elden Ring, and Pokémon

God of War: Ragnarök debuted in first place on the UK retail charts, according to GfK Chart-Track for the week ending November 12, 2022. 82 percent of launch week retail sales were on the PlayStation 5 and 18 percent on the PlayStation 4.

The game had the second biggest launch of 2022 at retail in the UK, only behind FIFA 23. This means the PlayStation exclusive had a bigger launch than Pokémon Legends: ArceusElden Ring, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

12 percent of God of War: Ragnarök sales came from the PlayStation 5 bundle that included the game. The bundle also represented 60 percent of all PS5 consoles sold during the week. The PlayStation 5 had its best-selling week of 2022.

Launch week sales for God of War: Ragnarök were 51 percent higher than God of War (2018). After one week it is already the third best-selling God of War game of all time in the UK.

Sonic Frontiers debuted in fourth place with sales five percent higher than 2017's Sonic Forces. It should be noted the digital market has grown since 2017 and these figures only include retail sales. 40 percent of sales for Sonic Frontiers were on the PS5, 34 percent on the Nintendo Switch, 14 percent on Xbox consoles, and 12 percent on the PS4.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II dropped down to second place after two weeks at the top. Sales for the game fell 39 percent week-on-week.

The increase in PS5 hardware sales improved the sales for the other big Sony release of this year, Horizon: Forbidden West, which saw sales up 141 percent and climbing from 12th to seventh place.

A number of Switch games saw an increase in sales this week. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe dropped two spots on the charts, however, sales were up 34 percent. Nintendo Switch Sports saw sales increase 19 percent, Splatoon 3 sales were up 22 percent, Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales jumped 50 percent, and Minecraft (NS) sales were up 42 percent.

Here are the top 10 best-selling titles for the week:

  1. God of War Ragnarök - NEW
  2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
  3. FIFA 23
  4. Sonic Frontiers - NEW
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  6. Nintendo Switch Sports
  7. Horizon: Forbidden West
  8. Splatoon 3
  9. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  10. Minecraft (NS)

Thanks, GamesIndustry.
