Ryan trying to get Obsidian to cancel Grounded, Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 all just for The Elder Scrolls VI to release a little sooner had me lmao and made me automatically throw out any opinion he has on a subject.

Yeah then there's also him getting onto Xbox for Tomb Raider then doing a 180 and praising Sony for FF16.

I know this is Jez, but not pertaining to rumors he's trying to spread lol. This is.....interesting.

Won't matter I don't have an XBo or XSX, just a 360 and OG Xbox.

Me neither. I only play on PC lol aside from my Switch. One of the beauties of Xbox launching all of their games day and date on PC. So if the Collection does get announced, it'll be on PC.

Although that OG Xbox sounds incredible to have again for reasons that may or may not have to do with my profile avatar

JSRF is my fave game on the system. Got it with my system in a bundle in 2003. Hyped for Bomb Rush. It understands the concept of love.

I'm sorry but I think the lot of y'all have some big-time recency bias about IGN. Need I remind you that they gave FH5 a 10 AND named it their GOTY, while Keighley and many other gaming sites didn't even nominate it? They raved about Hi-Fi Rush and gave it a 9, Halo Infinite a 9, Flight Simulator a 10, etc. They've supported XBox more than a lot of other general gaming sites like Gamespot, Kinda Funny, Giant Bomb, etc in my opinion.

That article being referenced is not mean-spirited or telling lies, it's trying to figure out why a console that's been out for over 2.5 years has only released good AAA games for like 2 months of that time while owning over 20 studios. It's a legitimate question and one that, like it or not, a lot of people are asking.

Tbf, I only have an issue with Ryan lmao. Especially after that FF 16 and Tomb Raider post. But ooof go off on these xbots bruh

The Rise/FF16 stuff was classic hypocrisy but it can be defended by Ryan's opinion changing over the years. The Obsidian shit was way worse, it is what caused me to stop following Ryan, Lol. It wasn't just Ryan though, Dan said it as well but at least Ryan deleted his tweet.

It was honestly rude and displayed a huge lack of understanding of the Gaming industry that these dudes are apart of as journalists for it. Obsidian employees likely follow these dudes, as very well known IGN employees, casually tweeting "Aye, Xbox should think about cancelling all of Obsidian's projects and turning them into a support studio for Bethesda because their projects ain't shit and won't ever be shit compared to The Elder Scrolls" Lmao.

It was so fucking dumb...Obsidian has been such an MVP to Xbox and it would have led to even less AAAs for Xbox, all to add ~200 employees to Elder Scrolls VI which Bethesda can do by just hiring any number of the external support studios that exist, even IF Obsidian assisted on the project, that is all they'd be, assistance, because Bethesda would still lead it.

Probably wouldn't even get Elder Scrolls VI out sooner. Only thing it would do is cause very talented Obsidian employees to leave the company in large numbers because now instead of leading their own projects and having that independence, they've been turned into Bethesda California and shoved in The Elder Scrolls machine as nothing more than assistances after years of dreaming up and creating their own projects.

When someone says something like that which displays such an utter lack of knowledge on the industry, I can't help but ignore their other takes.

Imagine...

Pentiment Cancelled, Grounded Cancelled, Avowed Cancelled, The Outer Worlds 2 Cancelled.

Josh Saywer leaves Obsidian, Adam Brennecke leaves Obsidian, Leonard Boyarsky leaves Obsidian, etc.

Why would they stay? They're all Directors, Obsidian has like 4-5 Directors at any given time because they have a lot of senior employees who like directing their own projects, dreaming up an idea, bringing it to life. Why would they want to be a support studio for a game that none of them even have any history with? Now they all under Director Todd, Lol.

You couldn't even place them all in positions for The Elder Scrolls. They'd be a lot of demotions.

Sawyer, Leonard, Feargus, Carrie would all have job offers lined up for them if they ever left Obsidian, now Adam too.

Shit, NetEase would probably offer Sawyer his own studio, Lol.

I mean, every device comes with Game Pass

Not sure it's anything more than that, it's a good handheld device for Windows/Game Pass and Xbox wants to help promote it.

Bulletstorm kicked ass! That was actually a huge reason why I was optimistic about Judgement. I haven't played it since launch, so I may have to give it another try at some point.

Don't play too much GOW just in case that heavily rumored Marcus Fenix Collection gets announced next month!

Won't matter I don't have an XBo or XSX, just a 360 and OG Xbox.

Right. We need to buy you a Xbox Series or PC so that you can continue your Gears posting.

Yeah I totally forgot about the Obsidian comments. Did he really say cancel all of their projects or just Grounded? I know Grounded was involved, but I forgot.

I think it was Grounded and Outer Worlds 2 he said they should cancel, I seem to recall him saying that both lacked commercial appeal and that they'd be better off working on a new Fallout because it has alot more commercial appeal (I don't recall him including Avowed but maybe he did). While I absolutely think Obsidian needs to be working on a new Fallout asap (especially since Bethesda won't be able to release Fallout 5 until sometime in the 2030's unless Todd Howard gives up on trying to direct every Bethesda himself and instead splits Bethesda and their satellite studios into 3 equal sized teams for each of their 3 IP's), and I agree with Ryan that a new Obsidian developed Fallout has alot more commercial appeal than Grounded or a sequel to The Outer Worlds (first Outer Worlds sold 4m as of 2021, Fallout New Vegas sold over 12m lifetime, and the Fallout IP has grown in popularity since then with Fallout 4 believed to have sold over 20m), it was still a foolish take by Ryan overall, Phil Spencer would be an idiot to force Obsidian to cancel a passion project with lower commercial appeal (Grounded) and a sequel to a mid-tier IP (Outer Worlds 2), just to get a new game in a high-tier IP (Fallout) out faster, they'd be risking massive resignations at Obsidian if they tried a move like that. A head like Phil has to find a good balance between greenlighting lower commercial appeal passion projects (games like Grounded, Pentiment, Project Mara, and HiFi Rush) and getting studios to work on games with high commercial appeal that can move Xbox consoles and Gamepass subs, you can't just tell all studios that they can only work on games with high commercial appeal, not only does that make for an unhappy first party workforce, but it also gives up one of the biggest strengths of Xbox's first party, their genre variety with Xbox first party covering genres that Sony and Nintendo would never touch with their first party.

I'm going to throw out some things here:

IGN is not one person. It is a company with lots of different and opposing views.

If I may add, even being a fan of a console/company, doesn't mean that all your takes are good or rational.

I haven't paid attention to outlets like IGN, GameSpot, etc.... in over a decade. Not for any particular prejudice against them but I tend to get more of my gaming news from Youtube (channels like Gameranx) or channels dedicated to specific game studios and/or genres.
