Did anyone here say it has to be transformative? You're spending a lot of time ranting about game media, online personalities and how we have to protect Xbox Games Studios and their devs from unfair criticism; meanwhile average Xbox owners and fans here just want a killer app to play every now and then. Why the hell do we have to be concerned about all this noise, to the point of already making excuses and thinking it's ok to keep delaying games as long as Xbox and it's devs are protected. Do you not give half a damn for the consumers who've invested into their ecosystem, only wanting a modest return and still getting let down? |
I do not believe you get where Ryuu is coming from. Currently the media and especially Youtube media is setting expectations that will not be met by any game on any platform. That means when Starfield releases its probably going to get a lot of BS negative reviews based on stratospheric expectations because Redfall did not deliver. The thing about this industry is the bandwagoners. I see it a lot with a lot of reviews that look for clicks more than they look to give an honest opinion. Once negativity happens its like a snowstorm with these people and everyone rushes to hyperbole and jump on the bandwagon. Its not about the current Xbox fans we must think about, its the future consumers who will not get a realistic view of any games coming out by MS based on these types of stupid talking heads. While I see a difficult year for MS no matter if all the rest of their games are bangers, the thing is Redfall really needed to hit much harder than it did and because its a first part AAA game that looks AA and have a host of bugs and issues, it will be another hard climb for MS to overcome the current trend of negativity which this media is known for. |
Xbox isn't even taking care of it's current consumers and you're saying we should be concerned about their future consumers?
A great game is a great game. Not everyone is susceptible to online opinions. They've had more than enough time and money put into Starfield at this point, and like Phil has clarified, the aquisition came at a time early in it's development which gave XGS more chance to be directly involved.
If it ends up being unfairly maligned for only being great and not the second coming after it's launch, then that'll be the time to come to it's defense. Worst case scenario there is current Xbox owners still get a great game, while sheeple without free will only shoot themselves in the foot for the sake of petty console wars. At the very least, we'd still have something tangible to stem the tide of constant absence and disappointments in recent years.
However, if they end up releasing yet another sub-par product, even to the degree of Halo Infinite absolutely was sub-par and disappointing (to the degree of expectations they themselves had set and built-up for years), then maybe it'd be time to take an honest look at what would be a re-occurring track record of large scale disappointments, and what the root causes are, rather than blindly and pre-emptively coming to their defense.
