Fin.

One of the best Phil interviews, very open and honest, can clearly see Phil is annoyed and I'm optimistic he will learn from their mistakes, he takes the blame on everything and is pretty direct on a lot of issues. Clear explanations about Redfall's delay and what they will do better in the future, Phil sounds like if he fucks up again he will personally step down himself, Lol. Answered all the hard questions.

But optimism about the future, about the showcase and about their future quarters and their ability to launch one large title ever quarter, taking the mistakes and learning from them, I'm happy with a lot of his responses in here.

But nobody asked him where KI is.

The interview does not change anything of course but Phil seems very honest. Glad he just acknowledges the problems with the Redfall launch and takes some blame for it. Restored some confidence.

Takes practically all of the blame when Tbh Bethesda Softworks should share a lot too.

They're under Xbox, why didn't they ask for help sooner? Lol.

I agree with Phil though that ultimately they'd be no point in delaying Redfall, the vision wasn't met even if bugs and performance was fixed.

Ah well, The Coalition and Rare to the rescue is nice to have confirmation.

Oh my lorrreeeee. Imagine saying this.

Did anyone here say it has to be transformative? You're spending a lot of time ranting about game media, online personalities and how we have to protect Xbox Games Studios and their devs from unfair criticism; meanwhile average Xbox owners and fans here just want a killer app to play every now and then.

Why the hell do we have to be concerned about all this noise, to the point of already making excuses and thinking it's ok to keep delaying games as long as Xbox and it's devs are protected. Do you not give half a damn for the consumers who've invested into their ecosystem, only wanting a modest return and still getting let down?

I do not believe you get where Ryuu is coming from.  Currently the media and especially Youtube media is setting expectations that will not be met by any game on any platform.  That means when Starfield releases its probably going to get a lot of BS negative reviews based on stratospheric expectations because Redfall did not deliver.  The thing about this industry is the bandwagoners.  I see it a lot with a lot of reviews that look for clicks more than they look to give an honest opinion.  Once negativity happens its like a snowstorm with these people and everyone rushes to hyperbole and jump on the bandwagon.

Its not about the current Xbox fans we must think about, its the future consumers who will not get a realistic view of any games coming out by MS based on these types of stupid talking heads.  While I see a difficult year for MS no matter if all the rest of their games are bangers, the thing is Redfall really needed to hit much harder than it did and because its a first part AAA game that looks AA and have a host of bugs and issues, it will be another hard climb for MS to overcome the current trend of negativity which this media is known for.

Xbox isn't even taking care of it's current consumers and you're saying we should be concerned about their future consumers?

A great game is a great game. Not everyone is susceptible to online opinions. They've had more than enough time and money put into Starfield at this point, and like Phil has clarified, the aquisition came at a time early in it's development which gave XGS more chance to be directly involved.

If it ends up being unfairly maligned for only being great and not the second coming after it's launch, then that'll be the time to come to it's defense. Worst case scenario there is current Xbox owners still get a great game, while sheeple without free will only shoot themselves in the foot for the sake of petty console wars. At the very least, we'd still have something tangible to stem the tide of constant absence and disappointments in recent years.

However, if they end up releasing yet another sub-par product, even to the degree of Halo Infinite absolutely was sub-par and disappointing (to the degree of expectations they themselves had set and built-up for years), then maybe it'd be time to take an honest look at what would be a re-occurring track record of large scale disappointments, and what the root causes are, rather than blindly and pre-emptively coming to their defense.

Kotaku was only good for Jason's leaks but when he left they basically lost all credibility as a professional website and are complete garbage today, they're more like a tabloid than a professional gaming website, Lol. Site feels more like a shit-poster from Reddit now than a serious media entity.

So this doesn't surprise me at all.

"Focus on a diverse lineup, not doing the same genre again & again"

This is what I've loved about Xbox's first-party lineup is how diverse it is. PlayStation, takes notes! lol jk!

Nah you right. Xbox has the best first party in terms of diversity.

Yeah they bought their way into that position? Mad?

Just a few more acquisitions of developers in key genres and they will have virtually every game genre covered in their first party. Main things missing right now are JRPG and Fighting, there are some more niche genres missing too of course, but I don't see Microsoft acquiring a schmup studio for instance.

I found it very interesting in that interview that he said that Starfield was in an earlier phase of production when MS acquired Bethesda than Redfall was

Edit: And thinking about it more, I think this statement should go ahead disabuse anyone of the notion that the next Elder Scrolls will be along any time within the next few years, if they still held said belief. If Starfield was really in an earlier production phase than Redfall, despite the former having been announced for YEARS prior to the acquisition...you not seeing Elder Scrolls anytime remotely soon.

I guess BGS likes to keep their games super early in development to get absolutely everything planned out before actually working on it?

That'd be weird though considering there were all those leaked screenshots from a 2018 build. Then again, they did simultaneously do a complete overhaul on their engine alongside development of Starfield.

If that's the case though with the engine overhaul out of the way and all the pre-production completed, hopefully we won't wait as long for ESVI as we're thinking.
