It's actually tempting...It's full Windows yeah? It's basically an Game Pass handheld, Lol.

But then Windows Store/Xbox App runs so bad on PC that I wonder how it would run on a handheld 💀

Its going to run like ass until MS gets a mobile version out the door.

Mobile version of Windows?

Yeah. Probably.

But it's the Windows team...

Well this isn't so bad:

Legit probably the best GWG since 2019. Can't remember the last time I even bothered to grab the GWG games.

Wow, it looks like you can be totally blind and still get to enjoy Forza Motorsport! I don't think I've ever seen that before in a game

Windows memory management just isn't really designed for a gaming handheld device.  There is a lot of stuff running that just not needed on a handheld and how Windows give out resources need to be totally changed.  Why MS has not created a mobile version of windows all this time is a huge miss but at least their engineers see that and hopefully the company get moving forward on stripping out all that gunk in windows to make it a viable mobile platform.

Come on :)

I agree that Windows is by far not designed for mobile (or even as a gaming OS from the ground). But even on the SteamDeck I'm running Windows and it works just fine. The biggest issue (if we put aside the initial pain in the ass setup with drivers, controller setup etc..) is def. the battery and that's 100% on Windows but it runs very well. And with the specs of the Ally, I'm expecting some serious capabilities.

Yes, Windows is going to "suck up" some of those resources unlike SteamOS; but in the end; it will not really matter I think and the experience will be very good.

Will not run like ass, don't be dramatic

Side note: I'm also really surprised by the price. This is way lower than what I was expecting, this will seriously hit the Deck market. And I believe this is not even the cheapest model.

The internet was completely insufferable yesterday so I haven’t posted since the news dropped

Is there even a sliver of hope for salvaging the deal or is this thing good as dead and we should just mentally move on

Below $1,000 isn't reassuring, that's a bit of a high ceiling

Below $1,000! It's $900!

Microsoft just needs to get Game Pass natively on Steamdeck.

Well, you have to remember that the Asus ROG Ally is quite alot more powerful than the Steam Deck, so it's stands to reason that it will cost more. The Ally is for people who want the most powerful handheld on the market today.

Price

3 tiers, Basic ($399), mid ($529), high ($650)

Under $1,000 (we can assume they mean both models are under $1,000, meaning that the base model should be like $700 tops and then the premium closer to $1,000 with it's much more powerful chipset) Under $1,000 (we can assume they mean both models are under $1,000, meaning that the base mode should be like $700 tops and then the premium closer to $1,000 with it's much more powerful chipset)

So there is a rumor going around now that the Z1 Extreme model, the more expensive of the two, is $700. If this is true, this thing is going to mop the floor with SteamDeck, an up to 8.6 tflop handheld with a better screen for $700, while SteamDeck's top end model with a similar SSD is currently $650 for up to 1.6 tflops.
