Lol. Seems everyone thinks CMA's decision is dumb and baffling, aside from fanboys.

Still don't rate their chances against CAT. UK is a broken country

Kill off xCloud to pass the deal, it'd be hilarious because it would actually hurt the market even more but why should Microsoft even keep xCloud alive if they aren't allowed to acquire any more major IPs for it? If I'm thinking as a business and I see xCloud, a tiny, insignificant market, is hurting my ability to grow my overall business, I would question if it's worth keeping it around.

I don't think it is.

Have been thinking about this too, and MS might only need to kill Xcloud in UK, but this would only be feasible if EC doesn't block it either.

Just pull out of the UK.

Yah!!! They can use Linux and Open Office! Ryuu is probably already migrating his PC as we speak.

Said from the very start it was never passing and here we are, glad it’s over now we can start looking forward to the summer showcases. Say what you will about Jim Ryan but the guy went up against a trillion dollar company and successful put them in their place. If we had someone with his leadership at the helm of MS maybe we would have had more than 2 AAA games this gen instead of wasting daddy’s money on a failed venture.

Talk about icing on the cake for what was a shit night for me lol. I’ll just say I’m never having pei wei again.

Of all the reasons I thought the CMA would block the deal, this wasn’t it lol. Whenever you’re able to make a decision and the only means to appeal is to essentially tell the exact same group to do it again, shows that body has WAY too much power and too little oversight. And for a region of gaming that is very much in its infancy.

That means the CMA won’t allow any deal from happening for at least the next decade if it involves cloud gaming lol.

G2 Before Disaster hit...

And yeah there doesn't seem to be any checks and balances when they get to act on the initial decision and any other forthcoming ones. :/

So the next big date is the EC decision? Don't they usually follow the CMA??

CMA mention about wanting the remedies to apply worldwide so I assume xCloud would have to be killed worldwide too, CMA is acting like a worldwide regulator and deciding on behalf of everyone else whilst not wanting to bother to monitor behavioural remedies, Lol.

Just do it at this stage, ironically CMA would end up damaging the Cloud Gaming market but what is the point for Microsoft to keep investing in it at this stage.

Imagine if Sony was blocked from acquiring a well known VR developer because Microsoft may enter the VR market at some point, maybe, it's a growing market!

Feels a bit like FTC's failed block attempt on Meta acquiring a VR Fitness App, Lol. Except maybe worse because the Cloud Gaming market is barely a market right now.

RIP

CMA is fairly recent so it's hard to build a trend but I do believe the EC/CMA have deviated from each other multiple times, a regulator can influence another but Imho, the EC is the least easily influenced, maybe due to the fact that they represent dozens of countries, Lol. They don't really change their ethos on a whim and stick to their laws and interpretation of those laws.

So, I still think EC will approve Tbh...I've more faith in Europe than I do UK

(I don't really think USA can be counted here, FTC doesn't block deals, the courts do, and the courts will side with Microsoft).

I know this is probably a joke but Jim Ryan has absolutely nothing to do with the block, the Console argument was dropped, Lol.

Kinda a 4D chess move to publicly cry out about COD when they really cared about cloud.
