"The union will represent a wide variety of disciplines across Blizzard Entertainment including designers, engineers, artists, and support staff. A Diablo game producer and organizing committing member said that the mass layoffs at Microsoft were a major factor in rallying the unionization drive. "With every subsequent round of mass layoffs, I've witnessed the dread in my coworkers grow stronger because it feels like no amount of hard work is enough to protect us," they said. "This is just the first step for us joining a movement spreading across an industry that is tired of living in fear.""
450 Diablo Developers Vote To Unionize Under CWA
Love to see it, every single developer under Microsoft needs to unionise, it won't stop the firings but they can make it as painful as possible for Microsoft and maybe make them think twice about certain ones.

Its not about making things painful to MS because this isn't a MS thing, this is how businesses work in the US. What they should concentrate on is making sure they are fairly treated and that when layoffs does happen they are well compensated with insurance and severance pay. Believing they are going to punish MS for deciding to move in a different direction if they so choose will not only not work but will be a sure fire way for MS to punt the whole division away.

Which is exactly what they are doing and why it makes it painful for Microsoft, it's well know workers rights in America are far worse than those in Europe, or in the case of Japan, a reason why Japan has far fewer layoffs is because their employees actually have strong rights and protections, these unions will add to those protections which American workers desperately need, something obviously a company like Microsoft would prefer not to happen, I'm pretty sure at this point that Microsoft regrets signing a contract with the CWA to get the ABK acquisition through.
Recently we had the example of the Zenimax union workers, they were laid off but due to their union, they were still employed by Microsoft weeks later, receiving full pay and full compensation despite being laid off, essentially being fully paid for doing nothing, because as per the legally binding agreement with the CWA they had to negotiate better terms for the workers they were laying off under the Zenimax union. Hence why everyone under Xbox should unionise. They'll be thousand more MS Gaming layoffs next year. Glad to see more Xbox employees preparing.
Boohoo Microsoft has to work with unions, if they shut down the entire division because of that then fuck them forever, Lol.
