Not really, the CEO came across as a bit of a knob, Lol. It was like he was intentionally trying to have the next "Josef Fares Moment" but because he was intentionally trying, it came across as fake and too try-hard. I'm also not a fan of developers trashing other developers just to try to get brownie points from certain "Gamers" instead of just letting their games speak for themselves.

It was hilarious that he was shit talking other videogames originality though, whilst wearing a "Make FPS Great Again" hat but then revealed a fucking Battle Royale mode with Imagine Dragons as the backing track, Lmao. The irony as well of saying you want a Titanfall 3 but revealing a BR mode as your "Look at how much better than everyone else we are" when it was BR which killed our chances of Titanfall 3! It has launched to mixed reviews on Steam as well with a lot of complaints about the MTXs, sounds like COD to me, Lmao.

Anyway. They should play more FPS. There's far more FPS out there than CoD, Lol.

Maybe its just me but none of that really means anything.  Either the game is good and fun to play or not.  I can care less if the CEO or developer is a knob, we all have our faults.  Just give me a fun experience and enjoyable moments is pretty much all I care for in a game.  I rarely care about the personality of the people who create it.  Especially since I have no way of really knowing them.  I have some friends who come off as a holes but they will be the first one to back you up in a jam and the first to come running to help if you are in trouble.

I also pointed out the games mixed reception on Steam and criticisms towards it, Lol. But I will add on that I never cared for the game to begin with, I especially don't care for Battle Royale so have zero interest in the BR mode that they showed, I've never played a single BR. Add on the bitter taste the CEO left in my mouth and combine it all together equals me not giving a shit, Lol.

I'm mainly responding to a comment, to comment on something which literally just happened and post my thoughts on that though. Seems to me like a developer who wanted to drum up controversy for attention and got it, but it may have backfired slightly. He's no Josef Fares, whose personality helped a lot in bringing attention to his game and studio in a positive way.

I'm not sure about all that, but after playing several arena matches, it plays a lot more like Halo than CoD. It also doesn't have that terrible matchmaking system so many games have now. If you enjoy Halo, I think this is worth checking out.

Me saying it sounds like CoD is just a joke about it having a bad reception on Steam and being littered with MTXs, I.E. Like CoD, Lmao. I know it plays more like Halo, I have no interest though, I like Halo because it's Halo and for all the sum of its parts; The Campaign, the Multiplayer, the Forge, but I'm not a competitive multiplayer person anymore so if it has no campaign then I have no interest, Lol. I can't remember the last competitive FPS that I played, I didn't play much Infinite MP either, I'm just not into competitive multiplayer anymore.

I learned there is a Splitgate 1 when that cunt came on stage. His game looks like the most generic piece of shit anyway. This year alone I played Turbo Overkill and Doom TDA and look forward to Metal Eden for FPS games. Actually good and unique games unlike Generic MAGA losers game.

I really hate how people see Call of Duty and think it represents the entire FPS industry, Lmao. People who label an entire genre as sucking because of 1-2 videogames shows how little they play videogames, there are plenty of great FPS titles outside of Call of Duty and ironically this game has a similar reception to Call of Duty on Steam, Lol.

And don't bring up Titanfall, a brilliant FPS franchise, which is only dead because of Battle Royale, complain about it being dead, and reveal a damn Battle Royale! Titanfall 3 is dead and never happening because of frigging Apex Legends, a Battle Royale! Lmao. His whole shtick just seemed disingenuous and designed to score brownie points with certain gamers, Lol.

I remember when Splitgate first came out and saw the studio was founded by some recent Stanford grads of 20 something’s. Then months later after the game sort of took off, the studio somehow was able to receive like $100 million+ in investments.

So we’ve basically got a group of young guys that don’t fully understand how PR works because they’re computer science majors, and they have to make money back from the massive investments they were somehow able to make.

It's even in their Wiki page now, Lmao. This is why we hire PR folks.

On June 6 2025, at the 2025 Summer Game Fest, a trailer presentation from Proulx received negative reception from both game journalists and fans of the game when Proulx appeared on the stage with a "Make FPS Great Again" hat while criticizing other FPS games like Halo and Call of Duty. The presentation was also criticized for its Battle Royale reveal gameplay, which fans claim to go against the message of Proulx's hat and speech, as well as for the choice of playing Natural by Imagine Dragons.

Shameless self promotion. I checked out the demo for the one game Devolver Digital showcased at their showcase on stream while I waited for the IOI showcase to start. So here is a video on my YouTube from the stream.

Also yes, I will be streaming the Xbox showcase tomorrow on Twitch! ;)

VGChartz Sales Analyst and Writer - William D'Angelo - I stream on Twitch and have my own YouTube channel discussing gaming sales and news. Follow me on Bluesky.

I post and adjust the VGChartz hardware estimates, with help from Machina.

Writer of the Sales Comparison | Monthly Hardware Breakdown Monthly Sales Analysis | Marketshare Features, as well as daily news on the Video Game Industry.

Straight up the Splitgate moment in SGF last night was the best moment of the whole show, we need more modern gaming cringe like that.

Fair enough. I didn't watch any of the summer gamefest so wasn't aware of what he said until now. While the hat was cringe, I don't necessarily disagee with what he said. "I grew up playing Halo, I'm tired of CoD, and I want Titanfall 3." I don't think he was dissing Halo like some are saying. Obviously Splitgate 2 isn't going to revolutionize the genre, but more competition in the market is a good thing. Any multiplayer focused FPS needs a battle royal mode if it wants to last. I don't care for battle royal, but that is how it is these days. Every multiplayer game, F2P or not, has terrible MTX so whatever. I don't buy any of it. Before the summer gamefest, I watched a few Mintblitz videos about the game and he has some high praise. That's where I'm speaking from.
