I don't think it'll be the death of consoles as there will still be a market for under the TV devices. But yeah if the subsidized model that requires exclusivity and mass market would die it'll be great.
PlayStation and Xbox should just make consoles representing their vision of the best place to play games on the TV.

Y's games have been skipping xbox for a long time and it will not improve...

Playing TR remastered, it is weird how the remaster is so dark + how I already loaded my game instead of saving it several times....just like the ps one days...

So the Sony financials read to me like they are no longer aiming for 2028 on PS6, I think they have moved forwards to at least 2027 and possibly even 2026 to match the recdnt Xbox next gen leaks. They basically said they expect 2024 to be PS5's peak year, that 2025 and subsequent years will be down, and that PS5 is now in the 2nd half of it's life cycle (it only released 3 years and some months ago, so if it's already 2nd half of it's life cycle it would definitely imply 2027 or possibly even Holiday 2026 for PS6).

Yeah, the report of my death is highly exaggerated.  There just way to many people who do not want to deal with PC unless MS comes out with a stripped down Windows/Xbox OS that supports all video cards and does nothing but push those cards to produce the best performance they can handle.  I doubt MS goes this route but Valve has the right ideal, MS is in a position to actually make it happen if they go that route.

Can't say I'm surprised. I honestly don't think we will be able to play any Ys or Legend of Heroes games on Xbox unless Xbox does go the stripped down Windows OS route next gen so that we can play Steam games on Xbox consoles.

They really need to make dual layer stripped down Windows OS for Steam + Xbox OS for back compat plus Xbox optimized next gen titles happen.
