Btw, these are some of the tweets liked by Studios Operations at Xbox which kind of show that the rumours are true, haha.

Pretty much this.

Wow….i chose a hell of a night to go out to dinner with family

When I made the full jump to PC in 2018 when Xbox announced all first party games would come to PC day one, little did I expect it to ever get to this point. Not that it’s even confirmed yet lol but if there’s no explanation whatsoever from Xbox leadership at all this week, I’ll take these rumors as confirmation. This is too big of a leak to not have a statement of clarification of some sort.

If true, it’s been a good run. I’ll always have fond memories of at least that first decade of Xbox’s existence.

Only fond memories of Xbox I truly had were on 360. Was a complete dent to not make the switch during PS4 generation. :/

Funny how I didn't even mention CoD in my post which makes it much worse, that is a game that has pushing power if Xbox gets a clue and starts getting serious about marketing with GamePass and that is a yearly release. They have even yet to announce past CoD coming to GP to see how big of a push it will gives sales.

That's why I mentioned COD though...Microsoft performed their own internal survey and conduct one by YouGov (a 3rd party) precisely to show that COD going exclusive would not cause a drastic shift in the market and many regulators agreed with Microsoft on this assessment (aside from crackpot FTC) that not even COD as an exclusive would significantly change things.

So COD Marketing + Game Pass may sell some consoles and provide a decent push but it will be nothing big if even exclusivity wouldn't change things and used as a reason as to why COD can be acquired (again, by independent 3rd party polling companies and regulators).

The issue with COD specifically, tens of millions of COD players have already swapped to PlayStation 4/5. Why on Earth would they switch back to Xbox for marketing? COD is basically a platform now thanks to the shitty COD HQ, all their purchases are PlayStation, all their stats are PlayStation, all their friends are PlayStation, they have zero reason to switch.

ES6 is really the only major individual console pusher left and Starfield failed to push Xbox hardware in a significant way, everything else has to be added together for a collective effect - And why Microsoft may be opting for this move, impatience, don't want to wait for that.

My problem is that they are giving up before even trying.

To all the XDents in here who mocked me for saying Starfield to PS5 by 2025. Suck it.

Oooof, guess time will tell. Just kind of tired of all these rumors over the past month plus if they're true MS should just come out and say something (or if they're false). Although, I guess if they were false they definitely would have shot them down by now maybe...

Same, I want them to just come out and say their plans now so people can decide what they want to do and we can just move on and talk about games again, Lol. Business talk is so tedious. Ultimately can't change anything and can't say for certain what will work/won't work or know their internal metrics. Honestly lately I'm a bit exhausted and seriously considering taking a long term break because I've been happier in my breaks, Lol.

I'll go where Game Pass is and if Game Pass doesn't exist in the future, I'll swap to PC/Steam.

Crom taking on Twitter again though, haha, I feel like Crom is always in the middle of these things.

It ain't over yet, at least another piece of hardware is coming

But I always believed hardware would go away at some point in my lifetime.

Honestly if xCloud wasn't so shit and my internet wasn't shit, I would be fine with using xCloud on my Samsung TV instead of hardware but that's a future 10+ years away for me I think, Lol.

Wow MS is really throwing in the towel. Wonder if ES6 will launch day one on PS5 as well.

Fair but I think from Microsoft's perspective as well, you can almost see why they've became impatient.

  • Invested billions into Xbox content alone from 2018.
  • Invested over $80bn in acquisitions.
  • Had to deal with a lot of shit when acquiring ABK despite their lack of exclusives and 3rd place position.
  • Console exclusives restricts growth potential via acquisitions.
  • Polls conducted for COD showed even COD exclusivity wouldn't cause a major shift.
  • Hardware been basically flat since the Xbox One era, a huge decrease from Xbox 360.
  • Xbox Series hardware declining, even massive price cuts last holiday didn't meet their internal expectations.
  • Starfield which will be their biggest console pusher until ES6 didn't do much for hardware.
  • Game Pass sub numbers have stagnated on Xbox hardware.
  • Without ABK, MS Gaming would have declined in the recent quarter.

All their methods for making money, whether that be hardware or content and services would be either declining or flatlining without ABK being added on. Ol Phillip can't just keep acquiring to cover up a lack of growth or even a decline.

Maybe they could try for another dozen years to turn things around but people will be even more entrenched in PS ecosystem by then, it's going to basically be impossible to make Xbox anything more than a secondary console to PlayStation and the console market has hit a ceiling for a while now and Xbox's ceiling is 50-60m-ish. Would have been even less for Xbox Series LT. Decline overall. Microsoft would be waiting until next gen for any meaningful increase.

It smells of "we aren't pumping billions into you for small profit margins, increase your profit margins, now"

The last take is dumb especially since we know that the majority of GamePass subs are from Console, If you reduce the value of the Console which this will do without a doubt then how does it help the platform? You get less subs and then what's the point of Gamepass when you start making less money from subs?

Also the whole leaving money on the Table argument applies to everyone and yet you will never see Sony and Nintendo putting their 1st party games on other console platforms.
