As long as there is enough demand out there for physical games, there will be options to buy them.  Games like Mario Kart have sold 5.5 million physical games in Japan alone.

But this is clearly decreasing.

I think Nintendo will stay physical for a while. Sony is still having some launches where their big exclusives are like 50% physical, I think Sony will be selling physical games for another gen. MS is primarily selling a digital only console though, and has a greater digital share than either.

Yeah I'd say the demand to have traditional game consoles will always be substantially higher than the demand for physical games.

Many just want a plug and play gaming experience.

I'll get over it, if they go all digital. 160+ posts

I am sure Todd and all the top execs are thinking, DAMN, I new we could go higher.  If MS thought they were worth 10, they could have probably gone for another 3 bill on top.

Hard to say. The divergence in value might be a reason MS decided to buy them. It's 1 thing to value a company as X and buy it at X. However when you can buy that company for less than you value it, it makes things easy. That also means that Bethesda values itself less.

Also, hard to say in this context if the value attached to Bethesda was under the context of the anticipated merger with MS at the steering wheel and the synergy it would create for other MS products vs. the actual value of the standalone Bethesda.

Oh, I was being cheeky.  As we know in negotiations there could be multiple other incentives MS put on the table besides just straight money.  Stock and other options are things I can think of off the top of my head.  Also what internal metric MS uses compared to BGS can be debated as well.  It could be that MS was willing to go that high but was happy to not have to reach their limit which as you said makes the deal all the more appealing when getting the green light from the top execs.

Ngl, I lol'ed.

Hey, CMA said they aren't competition, so.. get em MS. Would save me from the mid hardware lol.

Yeah, but I figure that's not how development works. Because one game is developed doesn't mean every game under development will see the same pushbacks. Unless it's the same team working on the games.

True but I think the impact here was COVID which seems to have impacted Bethesda fairly evenly across the board.

But you could be right, I wonder who is even making Fallout 3 remaster.

Well, the leaker from the supposed Oblivion remaster studio said nothing about Fallout 3, so I'm guessing they got a different studio from Oblivion working on it. No idea which it could be.
