I'm really not sure why so many are freaking out about Starfield marketing. It's a month before release, basically no game publishers run tv spots, web ads, or movie theater trailers for their games a month before launch. If Starfield's marketing campaign isn't in full swing by about 2 or 1 weeks before launch, then we can start to panic and complain that Xbox is bad at marketing. |
Agreed! I can't think of many games that go full blast on their marketing 5 weeks before release, Lol. We have had bits of marketing here and there, last week we had those 3 Starfield animated shorts, we have the typical product tie-ins popping up (food, drinks, clothes, etc) but the big stuff will come closer to launch. Todd has also said in the past that he prefers shorter marketing cycles so it may be that too.
I can't remember what Fallout 4's marketing was like but someone mentioned that it was similar to Starfield's right now. We also had the largest ever Bethesda showcase for an individual title which delved deeply into a ton of gameplay systems and features, the only thing that we haven't really seen much of is the story but they may want to keep that close to their chests.
There's nothing to worry about, Starfield is still tracking in Steam's Top 10 Best Sellers, 5 weeks before launch, it is tracking ahead of both Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy on PC when pre-order aligned, it has over 300k followers on Steam. The metrics all point to a huge launch. The hype is there, they don't need to go crazy on the marketing 5 weeks before launch to sell people, it has already been sold to a large portion of people.
Then pre-release marketing will kick into gear, the hype will go into overdrive and the reviews will hopefully seal the deal in the hype, I'm just basically explaining your typical marketing, Lol. So I'm not sure why there's a worry about it. Still tracking incredibly well, still has a ton of interest, they've already shown us a ton about the game, etc. Whether they go crazy now or 1-2 weeks before launch won't make much difference.
As for the casual audience, all they need is a week long of ads with "from the makers of Skyrim" to sell it to them, Lol.
A lot of the "worry" outside of this thread comes from the fact that Sony showed a Spider-Man trailer at fucking Comic-Con and Sony console warriors bragging about Spider-Mans marketing vs Starfield's and then Xbox console warriors falling for the bait and some dooming. There's a lot of doomers like that in the ResetEra thread, Lol.
