Technically Xbox doesn't publish anything now unless they own the IP so I'm not sure if this means it's based on a Microsoft IP because they own it or it's based on a pre-existing Microsoft IP.

Hopefully MS is just giddy at the thought of reviving the Bulletstorm IP!

My hunch is it's a pre-existing IP.

I kind of see both sides here. On the one hand, Starfield is a game with 250,000 lines of dialogue, my rough calculations show that would be a 1400 manhour translation job per language, and that 1400 hours number could be on the low side, it may actually be higher than that. Paying for a 1400 (or more) manhour translation for each language would get pretty expensive, there are some markets where Xbox sells so few consoles that they just wouldn't be able to sell enough copies to turn a profit on the translation. However, on the other hand, I'm pretty sure that sales potential in both Korea and Arabic speaking countries is high enough to turn a profit on translations for both, between Xbox and PC sales of the game. There is also the argument to be made that Xbox is never going to grow their fanbase in these more niche countries and regions unless they actually invest money into those markets, even if doing so is loss leading initially.

Also if this is being developed largely in Poland then worth baring in mind that Poland game dev wages are low so a $50m game dev budget on a Polish studio could be notably more if it was being developed by an American studio.

AI is coming to the rescue.  Just do one voice over in English and let some AI voice work do the translation to the other languages.  Of course its not here yet the but tech actually does exist.  Only a matter of time before Game companies utilize it.

People Can Fly could be a cool get for MS too. Really enjoyed Outriders, sucks that Dent Enix fked them over.

Squanch, People Can Fly, Asobo, Cococucumber all good smaller gets once this ABK thing is done.

I'm sorry, but this logic is about as ass-backwards as it gets.

An original game? Is 'Fable' an original IP? From what I know the game is still called 'Fable', right? If they weren't planning to respect the spirit of the original titles, then why even make a Fable game? Would it be fair to benefit off the reputation and fandom of the originals but not respect any of their design process or their fans? Does the world work that conveniently in your eyes, and people that forgiving and understanding?

Good grief. That this kind of mentality can still live on despite the yearly reboots butchered and bombing in spectacular fashion is beyond me. It's not a matter of ideology or 'get woke go broke' either, but simple common sense and basic respect for fandoms. It's not like we're asking for a 1:1 remake here.

Side-note: As far as Lionhead, Peter Molyneux and Fable go they've already been synonymous with disappointment, which I imagine is why the IP had such a long hiatus. If Playground have any understanding for the IP and respect of the fandom, they ought to be trying hard to steer away from disappointment.

You must be new to video games.  How many times have we seen a new studio take an IP from another developer and the game does not even remotely be the same.  Does Prey not come to mind to you or GOD of War.  The fact that you believe that just because they are using the name means they will make it the same is hubris.  The fact that you believe it has to be the same is also hubris. Its the same as me expecting a Japanese studio taking the Killer Instinct IP and making it the same as the original and that studio not wanting to put their own stamp on the game. You are setting yourself up for failure

So respecting the spirit does not mean copy.  It just means it will have some aspect of the original series but its still not the same studio nor are there any major creative lead from Lionhead at Playground making this game. So yes, this Fable has  chance to piss off fans of the original because there is nothing in that trailer that gives the impression its like the original series games besides some humor, a stupid chicken getting kicked and nothing else.

You tell me what is Fable to you.  What is iconic to the series from the first game to the third.

I will tell you one thing.  Nothing holds back a game then fans.  From my perspective, it would be way better for Playground to make this Fable their own and not try to copy or imitate the original game.  Do the same thing Santa Monica Studio did with GOD of War and make it their own game.  They kept the overall spirit of the game but its totally different gameplay wise then the original series.  One thing Playground should Absolutly not do is make Fable exactly like the original series.  Will it piss off fans like you, probably so but as long as the game is good to great, I am sure you will come around at some point and if not well, that would be fine as well.  This is Playground game now and they should take it in a direction they see fit.

Then again, I am the same person who said 343 should stop trying to make Bungie Halo and flip the whole series.  Kill Master Chief or send him on an indefinite journey and totally change the game.  I also believe the same about the gears series as well but that is me.  I want creative teams to not be locked in doing the same thing over and over scared to change up anything because of those fans who hold them back.

Did I ever say they need to make the same game? Did I mention an exact copy? I intentionally used language like 'respect the spirit' and 'no one's asking for a 1:1 remake' to make it clear I didn't mean that, so I wouldn't be here having to explain it again.

What alarms me is you say things like "...while they may include some aspect of the original series, it could be a totally different take." May include some aspect? As if it's somehow understandable for them to just abandon every part of the previous series and make something however they see fit?

We're not asking for anything dramatic here. How about just start with not making the sole playable character someone who was beaten with an ugly stick 10 times a day their entire life. Fable characters have always been dispraportionate and somewhat goofy looking, but they've never exaggerated the base starting playable MC to that extent. They've also always featured male MCs for each game even after adding a female MC. It'd be ridiculous to take aways such an obvious and simple choice, but making an exaggeratedly ugly female the only MC is just blatantly antagonising a ton of fans. You want to put your modern female model on the cover? Fine. I'll likely groan at the usual uninspired and unsubtle slacktivism, some more extremes will likely rant about it for a bit, but it's hardly the end of the world.

At it's root Fable is meant to be a player driven experience of choice and consequences. The emphasis on 'choice'. If they begin by taking away the most basic and obvious choices, where the hell is this game even going?

If they want to reboot gameplay in the vein of God of War that's hardly a problem. Just based on gameplay so far, it already looks as though they've made the levels and combat more linear and streamlined, aiming for a more cinematic experience with high fidelity similar to God of War. Whether or not that's a good decision ultimately depends on if the game actually looks and feels satisfying to play.

"I will tell you one thing.  Nothing holds back a game then fans." What rubbish. The main reason this game has become so relevant despite hardly showing anything is because the fans attatched to this IP. If they were going to make a game without their consideration, they should have started with an original IP that no one gives a shit about, that way if it turns out to be something no one wants we can just continue not giving a shit.

Weird name but makes sense, after Top gun Maverick literally a movie with the theme of flying we have a studio called people can fly making a game. Would be on theme if they make an Crimson skies sequel, hope it is no Gears after Judgement =p

has anyone seen this 'Rage Quit' button in the starfield direct? : r/Starfield (reddit.com)
