Is the consensus that Microsoft just needs to show up with some of their already announced games to put the nail in Sony's coffin?

I mean, for me personally, Avowed/Starfield/Hellblade II alone would already make it better than the Sony showcase, Lol.

Don't care about Forza Motorsport. Guess we'll have to see what the showcase has for us but I don't think it will be hard to have a better showcase than the Sony one, how much better is another question, unless Microsoft shoots itself in the foot.

However, this showcase was done months ago, Microsoft isn't and can't change it now, no matter what Sony has recently done, so I think people should do away with the thinking that Microsoft is going to see Sony's showcase and be like "TIME TO STRIKE" and then add a bunch of extra things into their showcase, Lol.

"Nail in Sony's coffin" is a bit extreme, it'll certainly help Xbox but like, Sony's stumble will be temporary, it isn't going to cause a drastic change and Spider-Man is around the corner. Best it'll do is help Xbox's brand some more and get everyone off their backs.

Ride that high until Starfield, then Forza Motorsport and hopefully Hellblade II and hopefully finally a consistent stream of AAA releases and Xbox should start doing better (but not better than Sony, Imho).

The consensus is that if Microsoft shows up with the first-party lineup that needs to be shown by now with some release dates, along with a statement display for how great Starfield will be, the doom and gloom nonsense will at least deafen.

I think you know he was joking and are messing with me, but just in case you didn't, that is Taro's unique brand of humor to say things like that. He wasn't being serious when he said Nier was dead, the guy to his side, who is Square's Nier executive producer immediately said "you may be proved to be telling a lie" after Taro said Nier was dead. As I said Square Enix was posting Nier related job listings just a few months before that video was posted, and I'm pretty sure I've seen some posted since the video as well. I don't think Square is dumb enough to abandon what has become one of their 4 biggest game series in terms of sales, with Automata selling 7.5m+ and Nier Remake selling 1.5m as of November 2022. A 3rd Nier is pretty much guaranteed to be a big seller, far bigger than Nier Remake, as remakes rarely have the sales potential of a brand new game in a franchise unless the game being remade was already a huge seller, and the original Nier was very niche, selling just 500k copies lifetime, Nier remake already sold more than 3x as many copies as the original Nier.

I haven't seen the context so maybe it's a joke indeed. Still, I think he is fine doing mobile gacha games these days. And I'm not sure what can even be done with the potential third NieR game. The two that we have now tell more or less complete story with not much to add on.

I want to see whatever InXile is working on the wasteland universe so much :)
I have very little hope for something to be shown at the showcase but I'm still hoping!

Sorry to disappoint but it's a new IP

Are you sure? I thought they had 2 going on, one new IP and First Person RPG in the Wasteland universe.

Man I love Wastelands 3 so much :D

The first person RPG is Project Cobalt. A steampunk style game set with a Victorian-era atmosphere with zeppelins, retro-futuristic robots, etc

Idk, I've saw that but I've always been convinced it's just one project.

However if it is two, the second was never hinted at or confirmed to be in the Wasteland universe.

In addition, it's the new IP which is the FP ARPG so the 2nd if it exists is more likely to be another isometric title.

This dent Ryuu posting about insiders one more time. I'm flyin to the UK and pushin his chair outside into the sun.

Yeah, not sure what they will do story wise, but I feel like they will come up with something. Maybe a follow-up to Automata set after Ending E (Automata's true ending)? Or maybe an interquel set between Nier and Nier Automata?

Honestly I'd even be cool with a new Drakengard from Taro next instead of a new Nier (Drakengard of course being the series that Nier spunoff from, Nier is set after Drakengard 1's 5th ending), as long as they get a good development team setup to make it, Drakengard 3 got disappointing reviews and I would hope that Drakengard 4 would avoid that problem with a combination of a good development team, incorporating lessons learned from the success of Nier Automata and Nier Remake, and a higher budget from Square than Drakengard 3 got.
