Forums - Sales - Anybody see this Nintendomination coming?

Nintendomination is bad for gaming in general. An even playing field would of been better. Imagine a HD Nintendo console with all your classics? You will have to wait until next generation for a HD Nintendo console plus motion control plus Hard Drive. No Hard Drive for the Nintendo Wii is probably the biggest issue the Wii faces.

BTW before visiting this site I had no idea about the success of the DS and the Wii.

I think the Wii and DS are GOOD for gaming in general, because they bring in a new audience. It's not taking much of the audience away from the PS3/360, it's just sharing it.

The only thing Nintendomination hurts is Sony and Microsofts public image, which is still barely affected.

It also seems to be hurting their profits.

All these people on here crucifying Wii for the casual market need to look no further than their beloved Ps2 and thank them for it. Nintendo just took the ball SONY started rolling with the PS2 and it's beloved 120 million sold, made them fumble, and ran it back for a touchdown.

All this talk of HD being a hinderence and influencing gaming trends, by the next generation sure. But when there hasn't even been a universal standard set and most console games not even utilizing 1080i to this point, I think it's safe to say the jury is still out on that assesment.

Also, up to the launch of the PS3 and Wii Sony's system was DOMINATING the news, there were reports of people camping out on every major news outlet, Wii mania really didn't hit until after it had launched and people got their hands on Wii Sports.

I saw the Wii being huge, for the DS factor. The DS had taken off do to it's original take on gaming, and as soon as the Wii sold out in it's first shipment, I was like this is going to be HUGE.

I didn't really think it was going to be sold out for a year. But I'm glad I got mine on Black Friday after launch. Because who knows when I would've got one.

This is why I say the lifetime will be shorter and not already over. HDTV will be predominant in the next couple of years .

I have 2 HDTVs and I can tell you like SD (standard definition) televison looks like crap on them. As more channels go HD more people will watch them (I mostly watch HD channels now since SD looks like crap) and eventually everyone will get used to the quality of HD.

Wii is 480p and 480p does not display properly on my 1080p tvs. It's like using your LDC monitor to display some other resolution besides it's default pixel resolution. HDTVs are much better than LCD monitors doing this but still it's noticeable when you go from 1080p to 480p.
So SD looks like crap on HDTVs ... at least, on YOURS.  I expect future TVs to overcome this problem, or perhaps to not have it in the first place due to different technology.  (I believe this is one such technology.)

If people get a Wii before they get an HDTV, isn't this actually an incentive NOT to get an HDTV?

Wasn't there a study out a while ago about HDTV adoption rates amongst gamers?

IIRC Wii didn't have as much as PS3 (~70% I think) but it was still over 50%. Obviously people either don't know the difference or don't mind.

Anybody who thinks Wii will have the shortest lifespan by a significant amount is either joking or delusional.
