Forums - Website Topics - Suggestion for Hardware YoY tool

Hello all!

I really like to use the hardware Year-on-Year comparison tool to see how well a console is doing. The only thing that irks me a bit is that it only allows to compare how a console sold each month of the selected years, not how well it sold in those years in total.

Hence my suggestion(s): Either being able to choose between monthly and yearly sales, or adding a column at the end after December with the total of those respective years.

What do you guys think? Would you also like to see this implemented? And how hard would it be to add this feature if it gets much support?

I don't know who wrote the chart code. Implementing it may be tricky because of that. Even including a chart may be weird since it changes by how many years are involved, how many consoles etc.

Have you tried https://www.vgchartz.com/tools/hw_date.php?reg=Global&ending=Yearly?

It essentially would either need a new datapoint or just adding up the 12 already exisiting datapoints. The latter should be easier to implement as it wouldn't need to do any changes in the database, just fetch several data at once and add them up to get the result.

And yes, I tried, but that also doesn't give you the total number of sales in a year, just the sales of every single week in a year (while the other one shows every single month in a year).

This page gives me the total per year. You just need to hover over each year.

Thanks, much appreciated.

I also found some kind of bug there now btw. Essentially, when I want to zoom in, it only goes until 2013 and then directly jumps to now or zooms out to 2013-now. Basically, everything after 2013 is considered like only one single entry when trying to zoom.

The zoom in doesn't really work for the yearly sales as the max is 1 year. I am guessing it was more set up for weekly/monthly figures. Those charts/graphs haven't been updated in years.
