@DarkNight_DS How does your idea of the box art, calling it "lone wolf" and throwing in wolf cubs or some old man guide, relate to the game itself? The wolf on the cover is the reincarnated goddess of creation Amaterasu, not just any wolf. Also, the fact it is cel-shaded, with the boxart looking cartoony, and since the Wii is very much a casual system and mothers will be buying games for their little kids, they'll see the cartoon wolf and think it's a child's game, which judging from the success of the crappy shovelware kids games, that could be a good thing. However, they need to actually break some eggs and invest in advertising to interest the rest of the potential market, without sacrificing the integrity of the product in doing it.

Except that RE4 had already sold millions on PS2 and GC, while Okami sold ~300k.

Honestly 50K is more than I expected. Hopefully it continues to sell fairly well.

lol , Patapon opened with 48 k and people where saying that they where expecting much more , and it will never make a profit . And now a 47 k opening is not a bad one :P

Well Il tell you one thing : told you so :P

PS : sales where higher than waht I was expecting :D

Well, Okami is a cheap port of a two years old game, launched with little advertising, so yeah, 50k is good...

Patapon, well, isn´t that a new game???

Does Patapon look like an expensive game?

Have you seen any advertising for Patapon?

[The answer to both questions is no.]

So if 50k opening week is good for Okami, then Patapon had a good first week also.  Yayz!

I was kidding a bit when I wrote that, in all honesty though what I wrote isn't exactly wrong.  Okami is a horrible name for a western audience.  The box art makes the game look like a Japanimation movie.  We may love the game for what it is but the game is being marketed at such a niche market (one that likes Japanimation and japanese culture. Remember: I'm talking about the western market). It could have used a slightly different method to get itself sold and into people's hands. A bait and switch success wouldn't have been that bad.  At least people would have gotten a great game.
