Forums - Gaming Discussion - Reservation no longer required to purchase a Steam Deck

Valve just put out a video that you can now straight up purchase a Steam Deck! As well as their official docking station is now available. Talk about a huge news update! I checked Steam now and it says "Buy Now" with an estimated delivery of 1-2 weeks. If you had a reservation, you should already have an email.

Looks like they ramped up production.

Sweet. Will be keeping an eye out when I'm ready to get one

So now we are going to see it going from 1M to 50M since it isn't locked to previous users through their site right?

No lol. Majority of PC users that would've gotten a Steam Deck most likely already have one. I do and it's freaking amazing. Although I primarily use it for emulators right now lol. I think at the very most, 10M in its lifetime for the current model. And I'm probably being overly optimistic.

Steam Deck is primarily meant as a compliment to your current gaming PC. Not as a replacement to your current gaming PC or console.

Valve has a very nice niche platform now that they can build off of going forward. Which they've already said they plan to add more power down the road.

One thing's for sure though, Steam Deck may be the most consumer friendly tech product ever made. Outside of something like Raspberry Pi.

Just in case you're not being sarcastic. They produced 1mil units. Their production capacity won't suddenly go up tenfold over night.

I was. Because on the thread celebrating the 1M they were giving the reason for it not being like the consoles (that sell like 5-12M on the first year) was that steamdeck could only be sold through their site to users that had accounts for a long time.

I don`t think the sales would be 10x over even if they had the production. Pricing isn't aggressive enough.

Yep 10M would be a very big achievement. Even dedicated systems, being sucessor of successful ones had hard time reaching 10M. With losses on hw and lack of sw out of the way this amount (or even 5M) shouldn`t be big issues.

Valve took the original video down and re-uploaded today. The original video included a shot of a Nintendo Switch emulator and Valve replaced it with Portal 2 in the re-upload
