Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Wii's in China?

First off, worlds population is 6 billion, not seven.

Secondly, Nintendo has announced, that Wiis price will be in line with worlds price. So i'd take that as 200-250 USD, high end with Wii Sports and low end without, although, it may be in line with the korean price, with the difference, that in China, you don't need an "safety margin" for changes in currency values when trading in USD.

Third aren't all of the three consoles made in china.

World's population passed 7 billion mark last year. 6 billion was the total back in 1998.

@Rock on: Well, 6,65G estimated as the end of march 2008. It's closer to seven, but considering it is an estimation and usually the last full billion is used to indicate the worlds population.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Given shipping costs, I could see it being slightly less in China, but not much as demand still exceeds supply in NA. Why sell it for $150 in China when they can sell it for $250 in NA? At some point they will lower the price to $150 in China, but not until they lower in the states too.

It probably won't sell as well as you think. Just cause 40% of the world lives in China/India doesn't mean 40% of the world will buy a wii.

I'd guess only about 1 in 50 people will buy one.

It will be much less than that. With a Chinese population of over a billion, that would equate to around 20 million console sales.

If so, just for China, that would still mean more than Xbox lifetime shipments WW, which could be considered as very successfull. If you were meaning that in China and India combined, one out of fifty would buy Wii, it would exceed Snes lifetime shipments WW, just those two countries combined.

What kind of sales numbers do you think Nintendo is expecting? And how many Wiis for launch?

China isn't very big. China + Korea are included in others in the others chart, right? Well, the Ps2 sold 4.5M there, and that is including most of Asia. Although the economy is growing there, I doubt Wii can see more than 1.5M in China, 1M in Korea, and 1.5M for the rest of Asia (not including Japan)

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

I think Korea will surprise people, but I don't expect huge numbers from China/India. Still Wii is leading without those territories so any increase will only serve to put Wii further and further ahead of the competition.

As for price, Nintendo will definately sell the hw at a good profit knowing how commonplace piracy is there.
