If Nintendo would have trippled processing power and memory across the board, and jumped from 480p to 720p while maintaining the per-pixel metrics of the Wii do you think these people would stop complaining about the Wii's technical performance?

There will always be critics of whatever you do and there is no way to make one group of them happy without offending another group; with how the Wii has performed to date it is likely that any attempt to please a small group of people who desire dramatically better graphics will offend a larger group of people who are happy with the Wii the way it is.

The term "gamer" really has started to test my patience. Isn't ANYONE who plays video games a "gamer" regardless of the genre, ESRB rating, or frequency of play?

Its like saying "You are only a car driver if you drive a BMW," or "You only are a home owner if you have a multi million dollar mansion in Beverly Hills"

Will Nintendo alienate those whose major hobby is playing videogames? I don't think so. I used to be one of those, prior to graduating college. The only people Nintendo alienates are those who won't buy a Nintendo console to begin with.

Is it necessary to tear down the Wii in order to build the PS3/360 up? The Wii is still outselling the PS3 and 360. Nintendo did SOMETHING right.

Nintendo mostly make what I call "pure" video games. That is, games that really only focus on the "game" part of video games, not things like realistic gravity, complex AI, storylines etc. Just basic gaming.

I'm not saying games that aren't "pure" are bad, btw, just to clarify.

If Nintendo sacrificed profit margin for better GPU and such then failed that wouldve cost them a lot. I really dont think Nintendo foresaw the success that they are basking in right now. You can tell by the still supply-constrained Wii.

I also beleive they always design their consoles to always make a profit on the get go rather than take losses at the beginning. Though i really cant back this up.

They arent like Micorsoft and Sony who have deep pockets who can sacrifice a huge deficit at the beginning of the consoles life and try to get back their investments through its cycle.
