You're kind of hinting at the point I would have right here, console and dedicated PC players (with gaming-grade PCs) are different groups with only some overlap, and even in that overlap many would probably still choose to get a console even if they could get all or almost all games on PC. I know I would, even if not at full price, but that's no different from what I do now.

I could also bring up the obvious example of Xbox which is doing just fine for itself despite releasing their "exclusives" for PC day 1 and just having less of them in general. I'm sure Game Pass deserves some credit for that, but that's available for PC too. A powerful console with solid games, a strong brand and a reasonable price compared to Gaming PCs is appealing enough in itself to sell a ton even if the games can also be gotten elsewhere. And again I'm not saying it would have no effect, just not a super pronounced one.

Xbox and PS can't be compared in this regard because Microsoft depends far less on it than Sony does PlayStation, hence why their strategies are so different to begin with.

The effect would be substantial and that's why they have stuck to exclusive releases with a timeframe.

Well we're clearly not gonna reach an agreement here, so I'll just make one final argument. Yes Microsoft does depend less on exclusives. And are doing fine. I really don't see a world where if PS did day 1 PC releases, like Xbox does, they would somehow fall behind Xbox for doing that (or even go neck and neck with them in world without stock issues). Their exclusives are part of their appeal of course, but again tons of people would still want those on consoles even if PC was another option. I also believe globally there's at least as many people to whom PS is their console of choice for 3rd party games as there is with Xbox and that wouldn't change.

It's possible that more PC ports are comming, but I wouldn't call it a certainty. Sony might be porting their most popular PS4 games to PC as a tactic to get more PS5 sales from the PC crowd. If thair intention was just to get more software sales from PC, they would be releasing their PS5 games on PC as well.

I mean, they're technically starting to do that. The Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection may be PS4 original games, but this remastered collection will only be for PS5 and PC.

Plus, with Sony looking to hire someone to further expand and manage their PC portfolio, definitely makes it seem obvious that their PC ambitions are just getting started. It takes time to port games to PC. A developer at Jetpack Interactive talked about how he had been playing God of War on mouse n keyboard for 2 years. Now that doesn't mean it took just 2 years to port the game. That's just how long it was in a playable state for with an unknown timeline prior to that milestone.

My viewpoint is that once Sony reaches a good number of older first party releases on PC, that's when we'll see either 6 months to a year delay before a brand new PS5 game gets ported. Most of Sony's games are one time purchases. Once sales have gotten to a snails pace on console, the game then gets ported to PC, and suddenly an older title is making bank again.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

There are a couple things I do wonder now if Sony truly is making their big push onto the PC platform. One being is will they eventually make their own PC launcher that will include a shared trophy system? I just recently 100% God of War on Steam and I personally would hope that all that progress would get carried over. Most likely through a PSN account link I imagine. Or will Sony continue to release their games on Steam and Epic Games Store only? Or all 3 even?? I would totally download a PlayStation launcher to play their games if that included a shared trophy system. Even if their games were also available on Steam and EGS.

Secondly, considering that you can now update the firmware of your DualSense controller on your PC without needing a PS5, is will Sony fully include the DualSense features on their first party PC releases? Like, will the PC version of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection support the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback?

I don't know, there are PS5 exclusives that are over or close to a year old and we still have no news on PC ports for them. I mean, don't get me wrong, I understand where you're coming from, but I don't see it as an obvious thing.
