The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article on the early days of the Russian push to take Kyiv.

KYIV—Outside the Giraffe shopping mall on the western edge of Ukraine’s capital, a group of locals prepared to meet the Russian armored column thundering their way.

It was late February, and the Russians, from an elite airborne unit, were riding atop their vehicles, as if expecting a warm greeting. One wore a Cossack woolen hat instead of a helmet. Another hadn’t loaded his rifle.

Ukraine should mobilise, but instead of citizen, hand out citizenships to foreign army personnel to get around the "other countries being involved" meaning world war 3 is starting.

Obviously other countries would need to agree to let their soldiers go.

They need to push the Russian back across the border before the poor untrained Russians get slaughtered. Funny how they starting with the ethnic minorities for mobilisation too. Coincidence or plan to get rid of them?

Damn that woman telling all these poor people to go to war. Probably like "hey it's not me who could die so fcking go already I don't care about your life but we want to extend our Russian territory" in her head.

Not content with trying to genocide Ukraine, Putin is deciding to genocide certain ethnicities of Russia too.

Going to destroy Russia in an attempt to destroy Ukraine and nobody is stopping him.

Hopefully Ukraine receives ATACMS soon, all Russia has against the West is empty threats.

He likely knows that these Russians are unlikely to change much long-term unless Russia suddenly fixes its training, leadership, logistics, morale, equipment, etc. But he's trying to drag the war out in the hope that the West relents in their aid to Ukraine but also a good opportunity for him to get rid of ethnicities he doesn't like, complete scumbag.

What I wonder is the unintended consequence. If these ethnic republics round up men of fighting age an equip them for war, these men could theoretically choose to mutiny whilst in their home republics against Russia and try to separate from Russia. A lot of these republics are headed by Russian loyalist but usually ones from the local republic (like Chechnya) so its not unthinkable (even if the Chechnya example is unlikely).
