BREAKING: The Dutch government has collapsed. Geert Wilders’ PVV has exited the coalition over stalled progress on asylum and migration. Despite PVV objections, the Dick Schoof-led cabinet had agreed to continue full support for Ukraine.

Lmao. When will people learn that far-right populists are all talk and incapable of running a government? UK will unfortunately have to learn this lesson with Reform. I'm just hoping UK can help Ukraine as much as possible before it collapses into ruin when Reform gets into power.

Yep, seems like I’m going to have to go vote again soon.

If RePowerEU goes through, and since no unanimity is needed it very much should, it would cut Europe from the rest of of Russian energy imports, as in, oil and gas. That would then mean that they would avoid sanctions as they would be free of Russian oil imports.

Cut how? What happens if Hungary and Slovakia refuse to cut off Russian energy imports?

Thing is, they can't.

The RePowerEU would render the existing contracts null and void (which also allows all parties to get out of the contracts without having to pay any fines due to "Force Majeure") AND forbids negotiating new contracts with Russia, so they really have no say in it.

The European Commission is confident that the European Union will manage to avoid the economic blowback from a new US Senate bill that envisions 500% tariffs on importers of Russian energy, which, if applied, would wreck about a dozen member states.

"We are in the process of phasing out imports of fossil fuels from Russia, and therefore, this should ultimately not be a problem," Paula Pinho, the Commission's chief spokesperson, said on Tuesday afternoon.

The draft law, jointly promoted by Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, and Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, foresees primary sanctions against Russia and secondary sanctions against its clients in an attempt to force the Kremlin into serious negotiations for a lasting peace in Ukraine.

Graham has described it as "the most draconian bill I've ever seen in my life in the Senate", while Blumenthal said the sweeping restrictions would be "bone-crushing" and place Russia's economy "on a trade island".

The project has amassed over 80 signatures in the 100-seat chamber, an impressive amount of bipartisan support aimed at securing President Donald Trump's backing.

What about Hungary and Slovakia? Lol.

What is even more note-worthy with that number is it comfortably more that enough to over-ride the Presidential veto.

Idk...I still don't understand what prevents them, that would be enough for reasonable countries but Orban isn't reasonable...EU can say "You can't do that" but what is stopping Orban from just...Doing it? Will EU issue massive fines? Will they actually punish Hungary?

What's stopping Hungary from still bringing in gas from the Turkstream pipeline? Will Bulgaria physically be turning it off?

Nice.

It still has to pass House right? House is full of a bunch of fucking idiots, I imagine the margin will be slimmer there but should still pass comfortably.

The House may also have to vote by a 2/3s majority to override a veto. Not sure what the numbers are for the bill there atm.

Just remembered Mike Johnson supports it so that should get some Republicans to fall in line, I can't imagine any Democrat voting against it, I suspect the majority of the morons in the Freedom Caucus vote against it.
