Work is under way to make all men in Poland undergo military training, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.

Efforts are being made to "prepare large-scale military training for every adult male in Poland," he told the Sejm. "We will try to have a model ready by the end of this year so that every adult male in Poland is trained in the event of war, so that this reserve is comparable and adequate to the potential threats."

Tusk said the Ukrainian army has 800,000 soldiers, whilst Russia has around 1.3 million and he wants to increase the size of the Polish army, including reservists, to 500,000 from around 200,000 now. "We're talking about the need to have an army of half a million in Poland, including the reservists," he said.

The prime minister said his government was also "carefully examining" France's proposal to include Europe under its nuclear umbrella. "Today, it is clear that we would be safer if we had our own nuclear arsenal, that is beyond doubt. In any case the road to that would be very long and there would have to be a consensus too," he said.

Poland is already planning to spend 4.7% of its economic output on defence this year, the highest proportion in the Nato alliance.

Tusk told parliament that spending should increase to 5% of GDP. Earlier, President Duda proposed amending the constitution to make defence spending at a level of 4% of GDP compulsory

The prime minister also said he supports Poland withdrawing from the Ottawa convention that bans the use of antipersonnel landmines, and also possibly from the Dublin convention that bans the use of cluster munitions.

Zelensky has called for an immediate halt to attacks in the sky and at sea as the first stage of a possible peace deal. Macron told France's Le Figaro newspaper on Sunday that Paris and London were proposing a one-month truce to cover attacks "in the air, at sea and on energy infrastructure."

But Moscow on Thursday appeared to rule out any temporary or piecemeal ceasefire.

Poland's Tusk also spoke of a diplomatic offensive to find a new security format in Europe, also by involving Turkey in a closer role.

Tusk said that Putin's Russia was looking to "use traitors of the European interests or helpful idiots" to cause divisions among the western countries.

"You would not want to be Viktor Orbán yesterday … after the Swedes, the Danes, the French, everyone, with no exception – the Slovak [Robert Fico] kept silent, but in the end voted with us – talked about the future of Ukraine," he said.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Friday threw his support behind a call by French president Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy for an aerial and sea truce in the Russian aggression on Ukraine.

"We support the idea of establishing a ceasefire as soon as possible and stopping attacks in the air and at sea as a confidence-building measure between the parties," Erdoğan told an online meeting organised by the EU.

At the same time, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed Trump’s threat of new sanctions, claiming that past restrictions have failed to stop Moscow from pursuing its "objectives" in Ukraine. As reported, she shared this with CNN.

REPORTER: You said on social media that Russia is pounding Ukraine. Why not provide Ukraine with air defenses?

TRUMP: Because I have to know that they want to settle. We want them to settle.

Trump has discussed with aides the possibility of calibrating America’s NATO engagement in a way that favors members of the alliance that spend a set percentage of their gross domestic product on defense, the officials said. As part of the potential policy shift, the U.S. might not defend a fellow NATO member that is attacked if the country doesn’t meet the defense spending threshold, the officials said. If Trump does make that change, it would mark a significant shift from a core tenet of the alliance known as Article 5, which says that an attack on any NATO country is an attack on all of them.

Trump considering major NATO policy shift

Which defeats the point of NATO, Lmao. You don't get to pick and choose who you defend in a defensive alliance. Anyway..."According to NATO’s most recent statistics, last year 23 NATO members’ defense spending exceeded 2% of their GDP. Five of those nations — Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Poland and the U.S. — spent more than 3% on defense. Poland had the highest percentage, dedicating 4.12% of its GDP to defense."

The countries that in the past didn't meet the 2% were often the ones not even in danger of being invaded anyway, the countries that were in danger of being invaded, like Poland and the Baltics, have met the 2% for a long time, but I doubt Trump even knows that, I'm betting he will instead demand an unachievable goal of say, 5% of GDP in defence spending, considering the majority are now meeting 2%. I do think 3% should be the target now, but I would never say "Lul. You're on your own to be slaughtered because you didn't spend 2%+ on your defence" to an ally.

Trump and his administration don't see European countries as allies though. Their allies are Israel and probably Japan/Korea. You don't wage economic warfare on allies or try to steal their land.

He’s threatening Japan and Korea with economic warfare, too.  A hunch of people downvoted me for saying so on the news article about his tariffs.

Trump logic: "I take Ukraine away their possibilities to destroy Russian machinery to shoot on Ukraine and then I wonder why Russia shoots even more on Ukraine"

Trump logic following this: "Air defence could destroy what's flying towards Ukraine but I won't give that to Ukraine because Ukraine needs to settle"

This guy has to have an IQ of a potato. There's just 0 fucking logic why technology to destroy incoming rockets is in any way hindering to reach peace. It just STOPS rockets from killing and increases the costs for the attacker to hit something for fuckings sake

You can tell that Trump has a low IQ by the way he has talked all throughout his life. And with advanced age, his lackluster ability to think has just gone worse.

Trump is also buddies with Netanyahu and his doctrine is no (air) defenses allowed in neighboring countries to keep the 'peace'. Israel is all about making sure they keep the freedom to bomb Lebanon and Syria at will to maintain 'peace'. And now Trump thinks the same about Ukraine and Russia. To get/keep peace, Ukraine isn't allowed to defend itself.

Of course it's just as dumb on Netanyahu's side as keeping Lebanon's (and now Syria's) 'army' weak led to Hezbollah, did not lead to peace. Just as letting Russia annex Crimea did not lead to peace.

But that's not the goal of this trio anyway. Putin and Netanyahu are more interested in continued conflict, rather their political existence depends on it. Trump is more interested in the spoils of war and wants further trade with Russia and Israel while reaping the spoils of Ukraine and Gaza.

We have entered the age of global resource wars now oil and fresh water reserves are dwindling. The 'expansion' of Israel is also very much about the control of fresh water, diverting / taking it away from the West Bank and Gaza. And now Trump wants to redraw the borders with Canada to take control of all the Great Lakes, one of the biggest resources of fresh water, 21% of the world's currently available fresh water.

Trump Logic is: Let's get more rich. That's all that matters to him. Ukraine doesn't want to give him all their resources, so Russia gets the win. Disgusting.

Trump hasn't got a low IQ, he has a low EQ and is a narcissist. He knows very well what he is doing and saying and is trying to provoke things to suit his own agenda of trying to profit from every interaction. All he cares about is saying he stopped the war at any cost so his ego isn't looked down upon as he said he would stop the war, and that cost is Ukraine
