Another show I've heard great things about but haven't gotten around to watching.

It's a fantastic show! IMO, one of the best of the last 20 years. But, it's not particularly accessible (like the Coen brothers stuff, although this is done by Noah Hawley).

First, it's a dark comedy

Second, each season is its own self contained narratives - although there are characters that will play roles in multiple seasons.

Third, they're stylistically different from one another (though, not as much as Coen brothers films), and not just in tone but in how they film it and what post production techniques they use.

Fourth, they're generally a slow burn, and while they are like one long 8 hour film, there's typically an episode per season that has little to do with the main plot.

Fifth, aside from the first season, the show is not very predictable. A lot of people get offended when the story doesn't go the way they want it.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Great news, one of the best shows on tv and I was very skeptical at first when I heard Fargo was being turned into a series. Sometimes it works, and now I like the series even more than the movie. Still cracks me up every time at the start "This is a true story". Dark comedies are the best.

Fargo is also beautifully made, cinematic master pieces. Best enjoyed one episode at a time, don't rush it. Give it time to breathe like a fine wine. Speculating about where they could be taking it next is half the fun.

Why they put this is a true story?   Is it for shits and giggles?   Most people want to believe it is based off something true when seeing that.   To me it's just false advertising.

I've enjoyed all seasons but yeah it gets pretty ridiculous sometimes especially that flying saucer bs scenes.

It's how the movie starts

Joel and Ethan Coen's 1996 masterpiece Fargo opens with a very specific disclaimer: "This is a true story. The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 1987. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred."

It's an inside joke basically. They just alter the year for the next series.

Ah yea forgot the movie started that way. Well regardless if based on true events or fiction I still enjoyed each season. I probably liked the first season the most followed by season 4 and 3. Season 2 was decent but probably least favorite.
