Forums - Gaming - Hangups Keeping You from Playing Certain Games?

What are some games you think you would enjoy if it weren't for one or two pesky issues you just can't get past (inb4platformexclusivity/businesspractices)?

I've always heard how great the Bayonetta games are but have disliked the main character from the moment she was introduced and nothing I've seen of her since has done anything to change that.

The new God of War game. The tone just looks too different from OG God of Wars. No matter how high reviews it gets, or high people praise it, I still feel it won't be my type of game.

Pokemon ORAS - Too much water.

I very much dislike school settings in vidogames - as a whole, Its something that brought down the experience in FE Three Houses for me and its the reason im completely avoiding Persona 5 and I absolutely hate The Binding of Isaac's Art Style, so even tho its a genre I very much like, I avoid that game like the plague. Im sure I would enjoy both games, but I just cant get into the mentality to get them. Its just, you know, stuff.

In contrast, the mashup of Disney characters with Final Fantasy style characters is a pain in my eyes, so I avoid Kingdom Hearts even tho RPGs are my favorite games. Its just really cringy to watch, I cant even imagine playing it. This one im sure I probably wouldnt enjoy.

When games get censored. And I don't mean like minor censorships like the missing boob slider in XCX. I mean like big censorship like in Tokyo mirage sessions. I don't like when Japan or some other region gets to have the lewds while NA gets to have the bland and boring. I am not saying every game needs to focus on sexualizing people but if one region gets it and others don't, generally an instant skip for me if it's not minor.

Pretty much any open world Ubisoft game. I kept hearing rave reviews about games like AC Valhalla and how fun Far Cry 6 is, but I've played past entries in these franchises and their open world design and mission design is always so similar compared to past entries, and apparently that aspect didn't change in either of the new games. Because of that, no matter how many great reviews I see or read, or hear about how fun they are, I just can't bring myself to play them. I feel like I'm going to get the feeling that I've played them before and that would just be a waste of money for me.

Depends for me for various games.

Some games I stop playing halfway through due to grinding, others due to perf hang-ups like frame caps or frame skips, sometimes games where I've mapped keys magically unmap themselves and screw me over, or games like TR 2013 not properly displaying quick-time keyboard keys at all (leading for me to die every time, until I plugged a gamepad in), which stopped me playing that game entirely.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I haven't played Kingdom Hearts yet because I've heard how convoluted the story is.
I've played about an hour of Dark Souls and several hours of Bloodborne. I'd play more FromSoftware games if I could get decent at them. But I probably wouldn't be able to.
I've heard Cuphead is tough, so I've never played it yet.

Any game with a 'time limit/restriction' to the story just kind of annoys me. I played Dead Rising 2 and the fact I had to get places in a time or it forced me to progress because of time was frustrating. Persona 5 did a similar thing and limited what I could do. I want to freely explore or level to my desire, not be timed.

Hmm, pie.

GTAV...always find myself bored in less than 2 hours. Not sure why though.

Anything that requires the internet is a turn off for me. That and constant updates. Sometimes, if I am in the mood to play a modern game and I turn the console on and see an update required before playing, I literally just turn it off and go, "Nope" and play something retro instead. It's just not worth it imo.

Also, any game where social/political issues are forced into the story or characters. Games are suppose to REMOVE me from the harshness of the world, not remind me of it, or add to the fire etc. So if I see a game where it's evident that the publishers forced that stuff in, I won't even bother. It's an insta-skip.
