Forums - Gaming - Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund Acquires Minority Stakes in Capcom and Nexon

I'm not sure if there's much that the companies can do about it, even if they were so inclined. Companies can't just say no to a shareholder they don't approve of, that's how hostile takeovers happen. Best they could do is offer to redeem the stock at premium under some agreement that they don't buy any more, but that's not too feasible.

Then what else can we do? If this keeps up we'll be out of companies we can buy products from that aren't backed by that Yemen bombing bastard. -_-

There would have to be some government action forbidding business with them. Unlikely.

Cool. Looking forward to Mecca Man.

I do not approve.
That said, 5% ain't much.

Smells like diversifying the country's economy to me, i.e. someone who hasn't really looked into the matter at all. Does anyone have any idea whether Saudi Arabia has invested significantly in other areas that might have a brighter future than oil?

It's fucking sportswashing, just like the Nazis did in 1936 with the Berlin Olympics.

I hate Saudi Arabia and the prince that owns SNK I think? The Saudi Prince is a monster.

Yeah, Prince Bonesaw and his dad are both monsters. I never heard an apology from old King What’s His Name for sending a terrorist to Pensacola to murder our military personnel.

I wonder what investment for, possibly localization? Or just a donation some kind, i dunno. Random thought.

I laughed, thanks.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

This is part of some plan to make Saudi Arabia less dependent on oil. They've also invested in sports I think.

That's not the point. The point is we don't want one of those worst countries on the planet to invest in our favorite game companies. That's why we were so pissed about all the Tencent investments and acquisitions.

Dude, I know that already. Half of the posts in this thread before mine were yours saying pretty much the same thing, and there was no way I could not see your comments in the news article either. I agree I don't want them investing in, well, anything I appreciate, but I'm not sure they really have much to gain from this beyond economic diversification (I imagine they'd need to own more than 5%).
