I remember reading somewhere that US customers are more likely than customers in other countries to buy subscription services and that they have a higher software attach rate. Not sure how true that is but it might also explain the US emphasis 

US: buy everything throught credits/debts, and pretty much have debts throughout your whole life, thus subscription services add to the pile

Europe: you pay once and you have full property on your stuff, minimum debt (or only for big stuff such as houses or car), less likely to pay subscription services
