Forums - Gaming Discussion - Playtonic making a sequel to Yooka Laylee (2017)

While it was certainly rough around the edges, I quite enjoyed the first Yooka Laylee for what is was, and I'm definitely interested in the followup, especially now that, as a few of you have pointed out, they'll now have more funding which will hopefully mean more polish.

I'm sure they're also acutely aware of the main complaints leveled at Yooka Laylee at this stage, and they've already shown a willingness to listen and improve, plus they now have the benefit of hindsight and experience.

They should have made something new instead, YL are mediocre characters in a mediocre Universum. With new characters and a new 3D platform game in a new gameplaystyle could be something to look forward to.

Couldn't the same be said about Banjo Kazooie then? Since Yooka Laylee is pretty much a BK game reskinned lol. Besides, they've already given them a new playstyle with Impossible Layer being a 2D platformer akin to Donkey Kong Country. The way I see it they've got proper financial backing now, so a new Yooka Laylee won't have to take shortcuts and whatnot like the original which was crowdfunded.

Banjo-Kazooie was developed in 1998 or so, when a colorful 3-D cartoon world in a videogame was impressive enough that people weren't going to nitpick it. It was also back when wink wink nudge nudge fourth wall breaking moments were still novel and cute. By now, Banjo and Kazooie have nostalgia and name brand behind them, so that they still work, but that doesn't mean a reskin 2 decades later with no goodwill is going to work just the same.

Not for everyone, which is why it's great that things like this are subjective :) Personally I loved Yooka Laylee and I felt nostalgic while playing it despite it being a newer release lol, and I'll happily take more!

Uhhhh. Ok. Seems a bit of a non-sequitor, but if you enjoy it I'm happy for you.
