Now updated through March 31, 2024!

No new additions, but everything is chugging along. MK8 DX has now surpassed lifetime sales of the NES! There were some small updates to 3DS games in the past 6 months, with MK7 almost at 19 million. TOTK still hasn't surpassed Super Mario Party, but should soon. Not good legs, but it has still sold over 20m in under a year.

The race for 20m with NSMBU DX & Wonder continues, as does the race between SWSH & SV! Probably no new additions for a while (at the latest would be Z-A's release, depending on what else releases this year).

Updated through June 30, 2024!  Not a lot of movement this time around. Odyssey did surpass Wii Play though and will surpass Duck Hunt in the next update. We will hopefully get an update on Wonder in the next report. MK8 DX is exactly 20m behind Wii Sports.

Jamboree will probably join the 10m club eventually after it launches. Definitely not in its launch quarter, but maybe sometime next year or even in 2026. Could have potentially 25 Switch games exceed 10m.

I still can't believe we don't know if Super Mario Maker 2 hit 10 million. I'm going to imagine it hasn't if Nintendo hasn't bothered to update yet since December 2022 of about 8.42 million.
Before launch, I would've said 10 million was a lock, with 15 million as likely. If it reaches 10 million, probably just barely. I understand a lot of people don't want to create levels (I have little interest or skill to do so) but playing Nintendo's levels and other people's levels is pretty fun.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 48 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

@Wman1996 It's up to CESA at this point to update Mario Maker 2 numbers, and apparently there is a delay with the latest report, so we might not know end of 2023 and later numbers for a while, if at all.

Mario Maker 2 has definitely underperformed because I would've expected it to be long past 10m by end of 2022 anyways. I agree that people would much rather play official levels than make their own. Doesn't help that it launched just 6 months after NSMBU DX, and the final update was less than a year after launch.

I feel like for the Switch 2, they should release a new 2D Mario around 2027 and then make Mario Maker 3 essentially a paid DLC add on for that game a couple of years later.

Updated with numbers as of September 30, 2024! No major changes. Just everything continuing to march forward. Some more 3DS games did tick up slightly though as well with this update. Still no update on Wonder, meaning it hasn't sold a million since the end of March. Kind of expected it to already be at 1m for the 6 months, but we will definitely get an update with the holiday update.

TOTK finally passed SMP. NSMBU DX passed DP. ORAS is a hair under Yellow. We did get an update for Switch Sports as well. MK8 DX continues to impress. Would not be surprised to see it at least close to 70m by the end of March. Maybe above with two bundles this holiday that include 12 months of NSO. Still believe ACNH will eventually cross 50m and Odyssey will pass RGB. SV should pass SWSH in due time but I don't see either title crossing 30m in their lifetime.

Tears of the Kingdom passed Super Paper Mario? Do you mean TotK passed Super Mario Party? Or Origami King passed SPM? Prolly not the latter, I assume?

@firebush03 Yes, I was referring to Tears of the Kingdom passing Super Mario Party. Corrected the typo.

Honestly I hope next gen they switch it up and put out a Zelda Maker instead of Mario Maker. Would be cool to make top-down zelda levels and play through other people's levels. Especially with Switch2 being backwards compatible, people can still buy/play Mario Maker 2 if they want a Mario Maker game. It's better to switch it up each gen rather than put out nearly the same game every gen. If they do a Zelda Maker next gen they could go back to Mario Maker the gen after that.

Looks like Nintendo Switch sports numbers are doubled in column S

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

Nintendo should pack in Pikmin 4 with every NSW unit sold btwn now and the heat death of the universe. That way, Pikmin 4 would break all franchise records, blasting comfortably into the "+10mil Club", and go on to send NSW to 200mil LTD. (How could somebody turn down a Nintendo Switch AND Pikmin 4? It's just not realistic. i would purchase like five extra NSW systems.)
