Forums - Sales Discussion - PS5 breaks Switch's US top-selling streak in September

Since the NPD thread seems hosed at the moment, I still wanted to have a thread about it. In particular, that the Switch streak of being the top-selling console in the US was broken by the PS5.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

33 months?!? Great run regardless of platform, but this was bound to happen. At least this means that more PS5's are being found out in the wild.....maybe my time has come!!!

PS5 is the one to do it as expected. I suspect the rest of the year it will be Switch again. If all should go well, PS5 should take the lead from February 2022 onward.

VGC had 361k for Switch and 315k for PS5. So either Switch overtracked or PS5 undertracked, or mix of two.

After adjustments we might just see PS5 take #1 global sales for week ending 2nd october after all.

Expected this to happen.
33 months is mighty impressive. When will it be topped and who will it be?

Well it will still take some months for it to be a regular occurence and them a "permanent" (in quotes because Xbox is likely to win some as well).

Impressive all around. Was hoping Switch could keep its streak going through the end of 2021, but this isn't too surprising. At the very least, it's going to be very hard for any system to have a 33 month streak going forward, so the Switch will likely hold the record for a long time. That's almost 3 full years. We'll likely see a Switch 2 in about 3 years and there's definitely no guarantee that PS5 will be the best selling system for the next 33 months anyways (it's pretty much not going to happen).

Either way, it's nice to see PS5 sales going up!

and October we have a NEW Switch version.

Now we need a good old leak.

Did it break the 360's streak for most consecutive months? I thought they (Xbox 360) had a 32 month streak in the US.

Anyway, congrats to the PS5! I'd figure it was gonna happen sooner or a bit later.
