Forums - Movies & TV - Netflix and VPNs

A few days ago I got a VPN to watch stuff on Netflix that's only available outside my region (Japan).

For 2-3 days it worked perfectly, but today all of a sudden it doesn't work any more. Just my luck I guess.

I'm getting the error "You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again."

F*ck everything. *sigh*

Anybody else having the same problem? Or does anybody know a workaround? (I'm using Surfshark, btw. This was advertised as working well wit Netflix.)

My experience with VPN's is that they always advertise it as a way to circumvent netflix and others regions restrictions, but it never actually works.
I have tried Surfshark, NordVPN and ExpressVPN but Netflix always identifies I'm using VPN.
My guess is that those companies keep a list of all IP's used by VPN companies and lock the connection when it comes from one of those blocked IP's. I may be though as I dont have proper knowledge on the subject.

I have Express VPN and also run into those kind of problems. What I usually do is change location within the country, so if USA - New York doesn't work, I try USA - Washington DC and I usually end up on one that works. I'm not sure if that's something available with Surfshark.

Yes, that is possible, the region I want (Canada) has 3 different locations, but unfortunately all give the error.

I was on the chat with a few people on the help line and the last one suggested to use the browser extension and not the app. That seems to work for now. *fingers crossed*

Thanks for the info about Express VPN, I was contemplating that one also.

Although IIRC they have tried to limit VPN use in recent years.

Yes, it seems they're trying harder now.

It really seems like a cat and mouse game between Netflix and the VPNs.

Right now I'm trying to stream Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7, and Canada is the first one I found to have that.
