Forums - Gaming - To prepare for RE Village, I will play through the entire Resident Evil franchise in chronological order (Current game: RE0)

Fun fact. Code Veronica is the actual RE:3 where as RE:3 was suppose to be the spin-off. Sega lost the marketing battle with Sony so Sony managed to use the number 3 for the game where as Sega was made out to look like they had the spin off.

It also explains why Code Veronica is a much better game than RE:3.

Google,

I didn't have a PS1 back in the day, had the N64.  When I got a PS2 I tried out Resident Evil 3, played an hour or so and thought it was crap and never came back to it.  Meanwhile I absolute loved Veronica and it's characters/story.  Just beat the remake of 3 this year and again thought it kind of sucked but at least the graphics were nice.  I was glad I paid less than $20 for it during black Friday.

I'd have to disagree there. I much prefer RE3. Played through it countless times. Don't think I've revisited CV since I first completed it.

Same.

Sucks that Capcom screwed over 3 twice in a row though. It's like history repeats itself, but Capcom could have avoided those mistakes.

Was different for me back in the day. I grew up with 1-3 and thought 3 was decent, and then when I moved onto Code V I thought it was alright, still mostly the same stuff going on as the first 3 games, just upped graphics.

Though Code V had multiple bosses, I only found Alexander Ashford to be the scary and intimidating boss, while Alexia was more sexually appealing than scary, her brother made me laugh every time, and Steve...well it's just cringy Steve. Bandersnatch were cool though.

Remake 3 was made by a side team at Capcom, and history more or less repeated itself (like lesser budget, reusing the same assets etc), only this time they actually cut content from the base game and as a result, the Remake played even shorter than the original, which isn't really the fault of the game, but the fault laying with Capcom.

Its understandable that some are going to like it more. RE3 was basically more of RE2 which is far from a bad thing.

RE:CV was suppose to be the true sequel to RE2, not only was the budget much higher but progressed the story even further etc. RE3 is suppose to be the spin off not the direct sequel. If you look at the games as a whole, you can see the that one was built more as an expansion and the other was built from the ground up.

Yes but you forget that by making 3 the spinoff, you're effectively placing Jill, one of the main STARS members as a spinoff character. Out of the general character rankings, she would and should take prominence over Claire, as Claire only shows up in Raccoon city, while Jill, like other STARS members, was trying to escape it. Besides Leon, Jill would be the only one remaining in Raccoon city, that's actually managed to escape and survive it's destruction, which I think made for the final closing curtain for that chapter that 2 began.

Code V is basically a sister, who isn't in STARS, meddling around and just trying to find her brother, ending up with a rag tag show off like Steve, and managing to land in with two nut job ashford twins in Siberia.

I don't hate Code V per say, but I find it has it's own set of faults (like Alexander and Tyrant being the default monsters to go off against, suddenly replaced by the sexy Alexia, which more or less kickstarted the mess of sexy bosses in Resi, because 1-3's main bosses were primarily Tyrant males) that hold it back from being a proper sequel.

What disappoints me is how many people were asking for 4 to be remade and not Code V, or even Outbreak 1-2, and even I would have given that to Code V, because that game has frankly been forgotten about for years (besides the piss poor HD remaster from yrs back).

I am not entirely sure placing Jill in a spin-off game makes her a spin-off character. Both Clair and Jill have been in 1 mainline game at this point and Clair had a goal in RE2 and that was finding her brother Chris where as Jill after RE1 didn't really have anything to follow up on. RE3 was suppose to be a continuation of Clair's story hence Code Veronica.

RE3's direction felt more like a RE2.5 where seeing survivors escape the city from the events from RE2 etc. I actually enjoyed RE3 as well. RE:CV did shift the focus to Clair however the game was about going after Umbrella which was straight after RE2. That's why the directors of the game said that RE:CV was suppose to be the true 3rd game but since RE3 came out and was called RE(3), they changed the name to Code Veronica instead.. which is odd because they could have just called RE:CV RE4 but than that would also out market RE3 and possibly confuse more gamers since RE3 came out in Sep 1999 and RE:CV released in April 2000 given not much of a gap between the games only being 6 months apart.

I can understand not everyone will like the new direction in Code Veronica since it shifted the tone from the high adrenaline Zombie style from RE2 and RE3 and going for that more slower RE1 formula. The 1st game is actually one of my favorite games in the series so i was more welcomed to it.

Just finished Leon's route in RE2 Remake, amazing game.

But not as amazing as REmake

I deleted RE0. I want to play through the games but not enough to stomach terrible, dated gameplay. I'm really hoping I enjoy REmake more. I know I will enjoy 2, 3, and 4. I'm thinking maybe I will just stick to the mainline games, I have too many games to play and there are a ton of side games in the franchise.
