I'm 99% sure that once you download it, you won't be able to play it.

My guess is that Best Buy is considering the release date to be the date when you can preload the game... which maybe is today. But, you won't be able to actually open the software till Nintendo does the ok.

Out of curiosity, why would you preorder a digital copy from Best Buy? I worked there for a while, and I'm not sure I ever sold a digital game code, except occasionally as like a gift.

They actually do sell cards with digital codes on them, a system similar to the Eshop Cards. Saw them at my last visit in September.

Oh, I know they do. They did when I was there. Just curious why people would do that rather than buying it on their switch. I guess it doesn't need a credit card, but beyond that I don't get it.

I did it this way because they now allow you to use your Best Buy points toward digital codes + you still get points for making the purchase. My way of sorta double dipping In cash back: Nintendo Gold Coins + Best Buy points without spending any real cash.

Ok, that makes sense.
