Switch vs PS3 Sales Comparison in Europe - Switch Lead Grows in August 2020

This monthly series compares the aligned European sales of the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 3.

August 2020 is the 42nd month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in Europe. During the latest month, the Switch grew its lead by 121,015 units when you align the launches of it with the PlayStation 3. In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the PlayStation 3 by 898,900 units. The Switch is currently ahead of the PlayStation 3 by 1.45 million units.

The PlayStation 3 launched in Europe in March 2007, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

The 42nd month for the Nintendo Switch in Europe is August 2020 and for the PlayStation 3 it is August 2010. The Switch has sold 16.70 million units, while the PlayStation 3 has sold 15.25 million units during the same timeframe. The PlayStation 3 did not reach current Switch sales until month 45.

The PlayStation 3 sold 34.99 million units in Europe during its lifetime. The Switch needs to sell another 18.29 million units to catch up to the lifetime sales of the PlayStation 3.

Taking on a Playstation home console in Sonyland, even the PS3, is no small feat. It's a credit to the Switch that its winning even in Sony's strongest region.

PlayStation 4 vs Xbox 360 in the US Sales Comparison - PS4 Falls Behind in August 2020

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360.

August 2020 is the 82nd month that the PlayStation 4 has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the gap in the US between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 grew in favor of the Xbox 360 when you align launches. The Xbox 360 sold 54,190 more units than the PlayStation 4. In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has sold 3.31 million more units than the PlayStation 4. The Xbox 360 currently leads by 1.38 million units.

The PlayStation 4 launched in the US on November 15, 2013, while the Xbox 360 launched on November 22, 2005. This does mean the holiday periods between the consoles do lineup.

The 82nd month for the PlayStation 4 is August 2020 and for the Xbox 360 it is August 2012. The PlayStation 4 has sold 33.98 million units, while the Xbox 360 sold 35.36 million units during the same timeframe.

The Xbox 360 sold 45.14 million units lifetime in the US. The PlayStation 4 needs to sell another 11.16 million units to surpass the Xbox 360 in the US.

360's gonna hold onto its throne; not only better legs in general but also an extra holiday season still to come before its replacement.
