Forums - Sony - RUMOR:: SOCOM 5 in development from Guerilla Games' second studio, to be PS5 launch title

I’d be excited if it were true, even if Sony ruined SOCOM 4 by making Zipper Call of Duty the game all up. It’s my favorite MP franchise ever, SOCOM and SOCOM II are two of the best MP games ever made.

I don’t get people saying times have changed, there are plenty of tactical MP shooters out there today. Including Rainbow Six. They could GaaS it all up and it would do fine assuming it has the classic SOCOM gameplay.

Same. Too bad SOCOM 1 was ruined by all the cheaters (wall-hacking, invincible guys getting 12-1,000+ kills per match, killing their own teammates and being awarded kills, no vote off glitch, etc.) since Zipper didn't bother to put anti-cheat software into the game, which they would later fix for SOCOM II.

I've heard people say there was cheaters galore on SOCOM II as well, but I've never personally run into them, and I've logged a LOT of hours on that game. Such an amazing online shooter experience.

I played thousands and thousands of hours on SOCOM II and I don’t think I ever ran into one cheater or hacker. There were cheats you could use on SOCOM using a Game Genie type device but it was so easy to tell who was cheating that no one did it much in my experience.

I never got into Socom games, though this might get me into the series if it is indeed true. A next gen third person shooter from GG sounds like a good way to start for the console.

I can see Socom being revived but I don't see it making launch or launch window. Seems to be more of a 2022+ game if we're going by when Guerrilla started expanding into a second team (2019). I think any additional first party announcements we're getting this year will be from Japan Studio. We know they work on multiple projects at the same time and they haven't released a console game since 2017.

There is the supposed Silent Hill reboot but the more interesting rumor is Ray Space. If everything said about the development of this game is to be true, it could be a surprise reveal at the next PS5 event, with a launch sometime in 2021.

If true, I hope they brand it as a franchise reboot. Can't say I'm excited much either way put perhaps GG can impress me. Killzone 3 was ok. Killzone SF was probably one of my worst $60 purchases. SOCOM Confrontation was my worst $100 gaming purchase (lived in the Bahamas at the time. Games were imported from the US).

I ran into cheaters all the time in SOCOM 1 yet never encountered them once in SOCOM II. The difference maker? One game had anti-cheat software, the other one didn't.

Also, there was literally nothing you could do except leave the lobby once cheaters entered the room (which was quite often in my experience) because you couldn't vote them off. They had no vote off cheats in addition to invincibility, unlimited ammo, getting dozens/thousands of kills per match and killing their own teammates.

Never once ran into any of that in thousands of hours of SOCOM. Only cheat I ever saw people bother to use was a cheat that allowed them to see where enemies were by putting the enemies names on the screen like they were teammates. And you could tell they were cheating because if they killed an actual teammate they’d still get credit for a regular kill. But they could easily be voted out.

Is the second studio cambridge who made the Killzone Mercenaries Masterpiece on the vita ?

I Hate REMASTERS

Don't buy this rumor and nope SOCOM wouldn't really move consoles.
