Forums - General - Why do many gamers/youtubers/streamers have challenged kids?

Pemalite said:

As someone who used to work in the health industry... It's not so much that rates of "challenged kids" is on the rise in any particular demographic...
It's that being able to more accurately identify those issues earlier on has become more prevalent thanks to our understanding of these kinds of issues and the technology at our disposal that allows us to more accurately identify them.

Decades ago for instance, it was thought "ADHD" children just weren't disciplined enough... But fast forward to today, that just isn't the case, it's actually a real issue.

Now why it might "seem" to occur more often among gamers, youtubers and streamers is actually pretty obvious, those particular individuals spend a larger percentage of their time at home, generally where their children are also co-located, thus are more exposed to various issues in their children and then make the concerted effort to go seek assistance.

ADHD is kind of bullshit.  Almost anyone can be diagnosed with ADHD.  It is an excuse for big pharma to push prescription meth onto kids.

I could be classified as ADHD but the solution for me isn't taking meth.

ADHD is very much a real mental health issue, even has a genetics component that has been an identified cause in 75% of cases with environmental and societal influences being other candidates.

The big Pharma conspiracy is just that... A conspiracy theory. - I used to work in the health industry and getting hicks who "watched a youtube video" once thinking they know more than professionals who have spent decades researching the topic... Is blatantly stupid and illogical.
Just another Karen.

It's as bad as Anti-vaxxers who screech about mercury in vaccines being toxic... Yet don't acknowledge the fact that ethanol, dihydrogen monoxide, dehydroepiandrosterone, 20 different types of acids and a bunch of other scary shit... Are actually parts of what makes up human blood... And each of those "substances" in large enough quantities have a toxic effect on the human body, even cancerous... But we need them to also survive.

As for big pharma... They don't exist world-wide, yet the ADHD is a diagnosed issue world-wide. - Big Pharma had absolutely zero influence over me whilst I worked in the health industry... Nor was "meth" prescribed to any individual.

Either way, if you wish to have a proper discussion on this topic with me in particular, you will need to drop the conspiracies at the door.

Ritalin and Adderall are basically meth.  So you are fine with medicating children with meth.  Got it.

I'm just saying there are better ways to treat this so called disorder.  Having teachers basically pushing parents to medicate their kids because they can't control them in class isn't the proper solution.  That's what they do here in USA.  As for other countries I have no clue.

If there is a change in the number of children born with problems, the most obvious correlation would be the increasing age of parents. There are many other possibilities as well. But, the thought that streaming has anything to do with it doesn't pass the most basic smell test.

Being anti prescription pills isn't the same as anti vaxxer. I'm done talking to your ass.

Can be but mostly medication is not used in the first attempt of helping someone with a disorder,it's also often used when there is no other more healthy option left.

Taking pills is better than just being always depressed and having your education suffer from it.

In USA medication is the first attempt almost always.   Call it lazy or paid off doctors or what you want but often times here in USA it is the first.   I went to doctor about two years ago for physical had a little high blood pressure.  Guess what instead of suggesting I lose a little weight, change diet or anything like that he suggested to take high blood pressure medication.   Fast forward a year later and guess what those high blood pressure pills are known to cause cancer.   Do I want cancer or high blood pressure.   Hmmm let me think about that.

@m0ney If you only made this thread to have your conspiracy theory reinforced, while ignoring everyone else, then I feel there are better places suited for that. I asked you how this sample pool of 4-5 people compares to other communities, because you didn't make any comparison whatsoever. Only an observation about people who put their lives in the spotlight for everyone to see also display more problems. Shocker.

I don't like hearing the "There's better testing now so numbers are higher" response. Talk about repeating what someone else said.

Yeah, imagine repeating what science tells us.

The criteria for what counts as autism has continually expanded over the years. Instead of having to meet 6 out of 6 criteria, it became 8 out of 16. In 1987, the criteria was expanded by allowing a diagnosis even if symptoms became apparent after 30 months of age.
In 1994, DSM broadened the definition of autism even further, by including Asperger syndrome on the milder end of the spectrum. In 2013 DMS-5 collapsed autism, Asperger syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified into a single diagnosis.
In 2006, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended screening all children for autism during routine pediatrician visits at 18 and 24 months of age. This move may have led to diagnoses for children who would otherwise have slipped under the radar.

And so on and so forth.
USA didn't even begin tracking ASD until 2000.

Ignoring decades of science and spreading conspiracy theories is only going to harm other children.
This is why we have so many parents today not vaccinating their kids, causing measles outbreaks (a disease that we previously declared extinguished...) putting everyone around them in danger, because these things can and do mutate into things we don't have vaccinations for.

You are literally using an argument that speaks “Autism is normal, there’s nothing that causes it. Happy day for me, I don’t have to worry about it. But you need to stop being looney, with your having ideas about what causes it.”

The “scientists” can be right all day. They offer me nothing for the answers I seek. Feels like they don’t even attempt to ask why this happens. The closest thing they’ve given me is that it’s hereditary. That’s it. So I look at the reward centers in the brain, those cause our behaviors. Technology can give a greater reward than social emotional encounters depending on your psychological makeup. That’s how you create an autistic kid.

You think being autistic is a dopamine/hormonal issue?

I feel like the OP has had a sufficient amount of time to back up the claim that many youtubers and gamers have autistic children, and has failed to do so. As such the topic will be closed.

If people want to make a separate topic to discuss this, they are free to do so. I mean... I'd rather they didn't unless they have some real expertise on the subject, but we can't stop them from doing so. In this case though, considering the kind of issue we're talking about here, and the fact that the OP poisoned the well, this one will be locked.
