Minecraft 2 Xbox SEX exclusive (timed exclusive and then later releasing on PC).

Then to counter, Sony will make another deal with Epic as they are already in bed to make fortnite timed exclusive

As much as I’d like that it won’t happen. Minecraft is so lucrative it’s more profitable to keep it on the competition.
As the monopoly of the “built create share” genre it also does double duty on preventing anything on the competition from truly thriving (basically anything from Media Molecule). So there is a strategic benefit.
Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Selling 176 million worldwide as of March 2020 seems to qualify as an “ace” to most people. And it was only around 50 million when MS acquired it FYI. Also 150 million F2P copies in China.
It would be a massive value proposition to limit it to Xbox, but it also falls out of line with their consumer friendly philosophy. Basically, Minecraft was multiplat when bought so it would be bad PR to roll back on that. I personally made peace with this a while ago and think of it as other gamers helping pad Xbox’s bottom line.

I think it was already announced as a launch title for both.
Minecraft 2 hasn't been announced so there is no counter to be done. If Sony were to moneyhat Fortnite for a bit, it wouldn't be a counter. On a side note, that would probably be a really expensive moneyhat for Sony.

I don't think that would be a good idea for the IP or its potential revenue.
