Forums - Sales Discussion - Why Play Station is always held at such high expectations, unlike competition ?

While reading some thread posts, a user wrote that PS4 sales have staggered. 112m sales on the 7th year seems staggering??? On another instance they proclaimed a certain console that sold 61m in 10 years  a success, while PS3 was a big flop!!.

Example:

the steak of competitors consoles is looking like this:

61m/49m/32m/22m/100m/14m+59m(2012 till 2020)

and like this

24m/87m/49m

and PS is looking like this:

103m/158m/88m/112m.

What would happen if a PS console had sold 14m in 4 years  ? This site would proclaim the end of playstation.

Do you also witness the double standards ?

The Vita has sold 16M in 8 years, yet no one is saying its the end of Playstation... Theres no double standard.

People said the end of Nintendo when Switch was announced after the tragic Wii U that is. Like how the power difference, launching the middle of the generation and price for a "handheld". Yet Switch and Nintendo proved them wrong.

It just shows how some people on the internet are just stupid.

Pocky Lover Boy!

To add to what KLXVER was saying,

A certain manufacturer has a handheld division that looks like this:
119m/82m/155m/76m.

Yet, despite that, a lot of people were constantly ringing that "Doomed" bell.

In fairness, if a Sony console ever did sell 13.5 million, they might very well drop the brand.

Heck, it seems they did drop out of the handheld market.

Well the Switch is a hybrid console, so you could say that Nintendo has dropped out of the conventional console market.

Nintendos last handheld was released almost a decade ago. Nintendo left the traditional market they had it is. :)

I'm pretty sure that if Playstation 5 sold only 14M Sony would simply leave the market and do something else. In any case, most rational adults know number sold doesn't particularly reflect quality - otherwise Justin Bieber is much better than Mozart.

I don't really see anyone saying that Playstation is a flop, though. Maybe that's a "you" thing?

Yeah.

As things stand, Justin Bieber is only a little better than Mozart.

Ironically Mozart would probably be pretty irritated that his music has become "highbrow".  He thought he was badass, edgy and rock-and-roll, writing music about aristocrats abusing their power to bone pretty young servants, and so forth.  A bit like how Shakespeare plays are actually fairly full of knob jokes...

Maybe in 400 years, we'll be able to study the hidden meanings and nuances of "Call of Duty" as a University degree...
