Forums - Gaming Discussion - Take Two Q4 and Full Fiscal Year Earnings - GTAV 130m, RDR 2 31m, The Outer Worlds 2.5m, Borderlands 3 10m, NBA2K20 12m

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-05-20-take-two-sets-net-bookings-records-as-q4-digital-sales-jump

"In addition to sales figures, Take-Two offered updates on unit sales for a number of its titles, including Grand Theft Auto V (over 130 million units), Red Dead Redemption 2 (over 31 million units), and Outer Worlds (over 2.5 million units).

NBA 2K20 has now sold over 12 million units, with Take-Two expecting that its lifetime units sold, recurrent consumer spending, and net bookings will be the highest ever for a 2K sports title.

Sales and engagement with the game appears to have been bolstered throughout stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19, as the game saw over 9 million hours watched on Twitch in Q4 -- a 40% increase over Q3.

And Borderlands 3 has now sold over 10 million units, up 50% over Borderlands 2 unit sales over the same period. Additionally, MAUs for Borderlands 3 steadily rose throughout Q4 and saw the largest influx of new players since the game's launch during March, due to its Steam release."

Stole the quote and title from Resetera because it was simply easier than to just write it all up myself.

After selling so many copies of GTA V (seriously, those are trully impressive numbers), and the success of GTA Online, I wonder if their deal with Epic to give away the game for free is a way for the execs of Take Two to see if a free to play GTA game with heavy focus on the multiplayer would be a better business model.

I'm sure they'll take a closer look at all the new players and see how much they spend in GTA Online compared to those that bought the game.

Not that they're doing bad, tho, those are very good numbers.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Now it's time for a Switch release

Considering how much GTA V has sold?

Not in a million years they will make it free to play, even with the biggest of monitization practices. The simple reason why is that it would sell/make money as well as being a full priced game.

I don't understand it either why there hasn't been one yet.

Relax, I was just speculating.

After all, Take Two must have a good reason to give the game away for free, and I doubt the money Epic has given them for that deal is the only one for that given that they could have made that money for themselves and don't need that extra income.

what in the world? They would never ever make it F2P lol. The game has made like 6 billion in revenue off retail sales alone.

They also announced they have 93 games planned for release by 2025, including 15 ports of existing games. 47 of the 93 are from existing franchises, the other 46 are new IP.

That sure is alot of games over the next 5 years. Yearly sports stuff like WWE, PGA Tour, and NBA accounts for 15 of those. They must have alot of other games planned.

Those are SKUs that they are planning to release, thankfully.

In Sports games must account to 50 SKUs on them alone, so it's not THAT many games.

Wouldn't the number be too low if it was SKU's though? They have 3 sports licenses now which they will presumably be releasing yearly, NBA, WWE, and PGA Tour. With 3 SKU's per game, PC/Xbox Series X/PS5, we'd already be at 45 SKU's, and we can't forget that sports stuff will be cross-gen for the first few years, so that would mean 5 SKU's, 6 if any of this sports stuff ends up on Switch. They say that they only have 47 releasing from existing franchises, so sports stuff alone would take up all 47 if it was SKU's. We know they have non sports games releasing in the next 5 years, like the new Bioshock they are making.

Makes far more sense in my head than having 94 new or remastered titles. I mean, that's 2 games per month almost. It's far too much, even for Take Two and it's vault of money.
