Forums - Gaming Discussion - Franchise Dark Souls(known for being hard)surpassed 27 million sales; Dark Souls 3 at 10 million units

As stated in the title, Dark Souls 3 has sold more than 10 million units! And the franchise has reached 27 million units sold in total.Just goes to show how much people ''hate'' not having multiple difficulties.

Deserves every sale and more.Even though I hate it's lack of story and the obtuse narrative, Dark Souls is an excellent franchise. Just goes to show that the hunger for unapologetic hard games is out there, and is not going anywhere, in contrast of what many think otherwise.

If you wanna know why it's so hard for games to have multiple difficulties and the 'easy' or 'hard' difficulty be what it is supposed to be, click on my thread in my signature!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I love how you clarify that its known for being hard.

Agreed. Deserves it and more, to me this is one of the best franchises of the last decade. I think the fact that its "hard" overshadows its other many virtues. To this day Bloodborne remains one my favorite games of the gen.
Every single Fromsoftware game has been good, even Sekiro, which I personally didnt enjoy as much as DS due to its more rigid gameplay, but I can recognize it still has great values in it. Im very much looking forward to Elden Ring.

Your own OP contradicts then... or do people love lack of story and obtuse narrative?

10M on a single entry, that is a very big niche =p

The Dark Souls series is the Dark Souls of gaming I think.

For real tho. Deserved sales.
The series has been really influential and also really good.

It has its shortcomings but still a quality product.

But I still hate you Dark Souls 2...
I respect what you do. But I hate you with a passion.

Wow, these Dark Souls games have sold better than I thought they would. I still remember people complaining when both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were new games about they were too hard and for a small niche group of players. I didn't care. I still thought the games were great. It looks like a lot more people have come around since those days.

Did someone say there's no market for hard games? I'm sure some people have said they'd prefer multiple difficulties, but for the most part it seems like you're tilting at windmills.

So basically, Dark Souls 3 is the 2nd best selling Japanese Nontendo game of the generation behind only Monster Hunter World. Such niche, much wow.

I couldn't be more happy hearing this. FromSoftware is incredible and lord Miyazaki is a legend; can't wait for Elden Ring and whatever they're cooking for next gen systems.
