Forums - Sales - Global Hardware 11 April 2020 - Final Fantasy VII Remake, Switch Shortages

For a first glance at the charts i thought the PS4 numbers and switch were mistakenly switched given their numbers last week!

I had no idea FFVII had that big of an influence on PS4s sales given its current price and the global pandemic and the fact that its a 7 year old console!!

Very impressed tbh and curious to see how the sales will be with a 100$ price cut for both Slim and Pro.

Will Sony ever cut price?  They seem determined to never sell a console as much as they could and clearly don't believe in $199 being a mass market number that would greatly propel sales and get a boatload of people locked into their platform for next gen with games and online accounts made on their system for whenever they decide to upgrade.

They never got PS3 there and PS4 should have been cut last Fall.  They'll probably do $50 and wonder why it doesn't give a big boost (getting under $200 would be a far more important price point to reach those cheap buyers)

Wasn't expecting Switch to drop so much and PS4 to increase so much so late even with FFVIIR, that can be considered a system seller.

Heh, these are crazy times.  Just look what kind of difference one week can make.

Last Week This Week % Change
PS4          159,783          325,988 104%
Switch          396,479          147,832 -63%
XB1            53,615            47,191 -12%
3DS              4,251              4,431 4%

XB1 and 3DS are stable =p

Would love to see some users that say Sony only sell 100M consoles because they keep the system selling forever until they reach that number calculating how many weeks would take for 3DS to reach 100M with 4k per week. A great system but its time is about finished =[

It was already finished in 2018 tbh.

Still it is quite good to still make 4k after being finished for over 1 year, but the point was more like the market decides when the HW ended selling not the company.

Great week for PS4. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact will have Ghosts of Tsushima and TLOU Part II. Maybe it was discussed before, but I'm too tired to check...what about a PS4 price cut ? Any news about it or forecast ? Almost 7 years in the Market and still at 299 ? And when Sony should cut the price ? PS5 is still on Target for a Nov 2020 release, maybe with limited supply, so it would be better to cut the price not so close to the PS5 release. Maybe it's just me, but I don't clearly understand Sony lately, starting from Mark Cerny PS5 deep dive tech talk, the silence after that. Again, this could be very well part of Sony strategy, and they wanna show all, Console design, games, new features, etc , all together when they are fully ready to do so; still, I was left with a "bitter aftertaste". Then Sony showed the Dual Sense...I simply do not complately understand what's going on. Thoughts ?

You're so right in this...

Nintendo wasn't shipping based on demand, that's an assumption on how fast it went out of stock in several amazon sites and not a single-one deal on black friday 2019! Where was the 99$ NEW 2DXL? That could prove to be a boost to NS , in the long run...

That was  undoubtly a  financially sustainable sale! Probably, they didn't want to raise the production of such an old piece of hardware, in spite of a recent revision, being fully committed to NS production.

Kudos to Sony, which always meets the demand of its every obsolete gaming console, till the end of the consumer interest in it ( I Will never forget the abrupt transition from wii to wiiu).

It looks like Xbox one will eventually outsell SNES and hit the 50m milestone! Is it so difficult to sell 3m units , between now and 2021?
That's a honorable feat.

According to VGC we have reached a ratio of 2:1 for PS4 and Switch

It will definitely hit 50 million by the time it stops selling. By the end of this year? Depends on the deals and how much Microsoft shifts their focus to the next gen.

Thankfully, so XBOX ONE+PS4 will have sold slightly less than XBOX360+PS3, just 4m less, I was expecting almost 20m...

Hence, the xbox 360 to xbox one sales decline is mostly owing to ps4 and not the kinect demise ,ps4 retrieved the sales that ps3 had been deprieved of xbox360.

Suddenly, the PS5 VS XBOXSX gets more interesting for me.
