Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumour: The Major Switch Title This Holiday Season Could Have "Tyres" In It

If a Mario Kart title is happening this year then it is a rare opportunity for Nintendo to radically experiment with the fundamentals of the series with zero risk of hurting the IP. If it fails, they can just go back to promoting Mario Kart 8:Deluxe but if it succeeds, they'll be able to expand their well of options for future Mario Kart iterations. If they play their cards right, they could create a kart game that's different enough to warrant making it its own series alongside Mario Kart without any risk of cannibalization.

A new Kart serie alongside MK without any risk of cannibalization... You mean Diddy Kong Racing ?

I don't want a Mario Kart game ever again. I want a Nintendo Kart. It was a half step that way with MK8. Now just go full speed with it. Like a Smash Roster of Nintendo characters and courses. I really feel Mario alone has run its course. Yes, these sound like puns but also being serious. Yeah, it's neat to see Bowser's castle revision number 87 but seeing F-Zero and Zelda and Animal Crossing was amazing. Now we can have a Metroid Track. Star Fox. Xenoblade. Earthbound. Fire Emblem! Splatoon! Arms. Pilotwings. Kid Icarus. Kirby! So many track possibilities.

What makes no sense is leaving tons of money on the table that would also please a majority of the fanbase. I don't think Nintendo is going to ignore the fact that far more fans like Mario Kart than any other racer just cause a port already exist on the system. A 20+ million seller like MK9, even if it were to cut MK8D's legs to 0 (lol no), would still net a lot more profit than the 2-3 million sales Diddy Kong/F-Zero/Kirby Air Ride would generate. From both a consumer and business standpoint, MK9 should hold more priority than most other games let alone just racers.

Then why haven't they released multiple mario karts every generation? We know the answer, because they would just compete against each other. And most people who bought the first one wouldn't bother with the second one because they already have the Switch Mario Kart. Mario Kart isn't gonna happen. Deal with it. Mario Kart 9 will probably be Switch 2 launch title. It makes no business sense for them to try to cannibalize their best selling game with a sequel on the same system (which they've never done) that would no doubt be very similar, rather than spend those resources making a different game that will sell on its own and not cut into the sales of their biggest seller. The only people who want Nintendo to completely change their Mario Kart strategy and release two Mario Karts on a single system are some of the Wii U owners who already had 8 on the Wii U. Needless to say thats a very small percentage of Switch owners and Mario Kart 8D owners.

Mario Kart 9 isn't happened on Switch. It would be a stupid decision and would be totally changing Mario Kart from a one per system series. There would be no point in releasing another mario kart for the same system. Not gonna happen. Nobody wants this. What would you rather have, another very similar mario kart that we already have on the system, or a brand new game? 99% of people would prefer a new game.

Technically Nintendo has released multiple Mario Karts in a single generation. After Mario Kart Double Dash, there was Mario Kart GP then during the Wii era. Mario Kart GP 2. Wii U era GP DX and in 2017 GP VR and last year Mario Kart on phones. Not trying to detract from the rest of your post. Just making a small correction on a technicality.

I definitely don't want another Mario Kart even though I've been playing the same game on both Wii U and Switch.  I really like the Excite_____ series, and if it's not that then I'd prefer to try one of these other series I've missed like Diddy Kong Racing or Kirby Air Ride.  I'd prefer some variety.

With Banjo being in Smash there's certainly a possibility they could have Banjo/Conker in a DKR game. Though I wish I could believe that a DKR game was actually likely.

Mario Kart 9 would be a mistake. The Switch doesn't need it. MK8 is not going to stop selling. If they released MK9 now it'd probably be very likely we get MK9:Deluxe on the Switch 2... and I'd rather they get back to one new entry per console. MK9 should wait till their next console.

Assuming it works, it's a great sell over more Mario Kart.

That's why it hasn't been made, because F-Zero isn't a great sell over most of their other series let alone Mario Kart. Just doesn't make sense to go with an unproven seller over a guaranteed 20+ million seller. Not saying F-Zero should never be given another chance, but it definitely should be low on the priority list. It's not to be made if it'll take resources away from bigger games.

Smash Karts? Burnout x Mario Kart filled with Smash fighters :-O

A Mario Kart in the vein of Forza Horizon, with open worlds and a slew of different tasks, different events and varieties of online battle modes maybe? That'd be rad!

But yeah MK definitely could use some sort of overhaul/retooling at this point.

I remember on the learning campaing for Empire Earth one of the scenarios have you start on on the phoenecian city of tyre and have to migrate and build a new city(Carthage). So obviously the game with tyre is Empire Earth.

Diddy Kong Racing! ❤

Quit playing with my emotions!

I don't understand how people can't be excited for this... Like, I literally loved the game so much that I could even say I liked it more than MK, at least when I was little...

I would be extremely happy if this was true.
