Forums - Gaming - Okami - PS2 VS Wii - Graphical Comparison

Well I'm not about to take a gametrailers comparison video seriously, but then again, I'm not going to buy Okami for the Wii.  So I can't compare the two for myself.  This has prompted me to play through Okami again though.

The original PS2 version was faded that way on purpose to make it look like rice paper. They either couldn't easily port that to the wii, or just decided that most people prefer brighter colors. Anyways, the PS2 version was made to look that way.

Personally I think the colors are way sharper and it looks much nicer, but I know there are some of you who prefer the full rice paper effect =)~

This, I liked the Wii version (Nothing wrong with the PS2) but colors add a nice plus for me...

By me:

They both look great, but I prefer the Wii version's brighter colors. Really gorgeous.

480p > 480i

16:9 > 4:3

No contest.

I just got it today. It will be nice to play it in 480p 16:9, but far nicer will be being able to draw stuff without taking forever thanks to the slow analog Celestial Brush system used on the PS2 version.

Can you really see that in the video?  I couldn't.

Anyway, I prefer the more vibrant colors of the Wii version.  I know the PS2 was going for the rice paper effect, but it just makes it look washed out in my opinion.

The specs are for videophiles who have up to date AV set ups, which today includes a 16:9 wide aspect ratio HD TV, as opposed to the aspect ratio of SD TV which is 4:3.

4:3 is square like all older TVs, 16:9 is the wide aspect, rectangular image of all HDTVs.

TV programs used to be shot solely at 4:3 aspect ratio. Currently most new programs are being shot in the wide aspect 16:9 ratio.

When viewed on a 4:3 TV, the 16:9 aspect ratio produces the "black bars" on the bottom and top of the screen.

When a 4:3 aspect ratio signal is viewed on a 16:9 wide screen display, you see black bars on the right and left unless the display intentionally distorts the image by stretching it wide to use the whole screen.

So, 16:9 doesn't mean too much for people with older CRT SD TVs, just like HD sources don't mean anything to them since they can't display them.

Only matters to people with HD widescreen displays. And yes, to these people it makes a difference.

480p/16:9 versus 480i/4:3

FYI they were both 16:9 and the PS2 did do 480P and neither had to do with color which is the obvious difference adn more so a choice of style.

480p? That's useless, my TV doesn't support it.

16:9? That's 1.78 and what does it mean anyway?

But the colors, hell yeah. Sqrl is posting really a lot of colorful stuff today.

all TVs support it through component unless the console cant handle it. The PS2 could be switched to 480p as an optional update same with color pallete update to xvYCC. Its not a far comparison to compare.
