Kinda surprised no one started a coronavirus prediction thread yet. And you know, it's still isn't too late to start one.

Which top 5 Countires do you all think will be hit the worst before all this blows over?
At this time of edit Iran has just seen another 1076 new cases...

On another note - Corona Extra is on sale at my local Lidl here in the UK

Thanks for the info,i have been looking for them in the wrong places and if the UK has them in Lidl i assume they got them in the Netherlands as well.

Iran and Italy are definitely taking the brunt of new cases and deaths.

Another angle to consider is how fast new cases are popping up in some countries. Egypt and Palestine, for instance, both more than doubled their cases overnight. Totals are still small but could that be an indicator of a potential problem? Egypt had 3 and now they have 15. A 5 fold increase.

They are probably just very late in testing. For over a week already cases identified in other countries were linked back to recent travel from Egypt. Who knows how long it has been spreading in Egypt in the mean time, which is likely also true for other countries. An average incubation period of 9 days, longer to get sick enough to get worried and seek help, up to 3 weeks to die from the disease. Many don't get detected until they're already in the serious phase.

It's crazy that it took this for me to realize that society is running a the thinnest margin possible. Everything is completely min-max'd by modern computing with zero leeway for any other possible outcomes than a bit of harsh weather for a time or in the case of hospitals a holiday weekend. Supermarkets, if they run out of stock have to close down because they have no other plans in place for restocking. You'd think somebody in government would have realized this problem and worked with industries to account for this, esspecially in places like Australia with seasonal wildfires or Canada with the mad snows but no, the only places on Earth who seem to be running on something other than pure lean accounting seem to be the ones already isolated like Alaska. There is no plans, if a bad disaster like a city killer astroid hit we are all fucked, the entire planet would rush to clear out every industry and recourse and we'd all die before any nuclear winter set in.

Yep, I call bull on all those plague disaster movies that still have most of the stores stocked to survive on for years after!

We already saw what happens with Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Here in Canada there are no big buffers for snow storms. The army gets called in to clear the snow out and deliver food and water. That only works when it's a small part of the country that needs help.

2,089 new cases today already and Italy hasn't phoned in yet. 3500 new cases yesterday, average growth factor seems to be 1.15 (outside China) atm. China is getting less and less new cases (+100) and 1678 discharged today, 22k active cases left out of 42k world wide. Tomorrow there will be more active cases outside China than in China. (There probably already are, still many undetected cases around)

Assuming the 1.15x trend continues, in 2 weeks there will be 22K new cases daily and near 500 deaths daily.

End of next week is the start of March break here. Perfect timing for people to go travel around for a week :/ Spring break has already started and lasts for a month (spread out) in the USA... Luckily it seems younger people get infected less (or simply show less symptoms). But who knows how far along it actually is in the USA.

Looks like this will be pretty bad for every countries economy. I expect most people will hardly venture out these days. I don't go out often so no big deal for me. However if a majority of people start acting like me and not go to movie theaters, restaurants, etc then goodbye consumer economy. Looks like the poor people in service jobs will be hit hard.

It probably won't be worse than 08 crash but most countries will take awhile to recover from all this.

I'm just glad they cancelled SXSW now Austin won't be flooded with people from all over the country.

On the bright side it's all the better that I got fired from my job at the airport, such places are high risk I imagine.

I think human ignorance will trump fear, the desire to live life rather than stay safe. There are tons of dangers going outside, I don't think one more to the already massive list will change anything.

We will have to see.  It will take another few months to see the extent of damage on world economy.  I'm pretty sure a lot of people aren't going to take a cruise anytime soon though.

You are right about dangerous world out there.  A majority of people apparently need driverless cars because looking at their phone is more important than driving.

https://nypost.com/2020/03/07/elon-musk-calls-coronavirus-panic-is-dumb/

I actually agree with Elon Musk.

It really is quite dumb. Basically all of the deaths were people with preexisting conditions or without access to proper healthcare. I actually find it a bit disingenuous to count every single death as caused by corona even if the person had already bad health to begin with. I mean a normal cold can knock out someone with full blown aids or a respiratory disease but we would never count that as a death caused by cold.

The virus has shown that it is overall very weak and will cause no or very mild symptoms in the vast majority of people. It obviously cannot deal well with a functioning immune system. Which makes it equal to many mild diseases we deal with on a daily basis. Give it another year and this pandemic will become simply endemic and nobody will even give a shit.

Compare this with the recent surge of people condemning vaping while they're still completely fine with smokers killing themselves and others in the millions. 1 billion people who are slowly killing themselves and others? Completely fine. 100k people who have a little sneeze? GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS!
