Forums - General Discussion - Coronavirus (COVID-19) Discussion Thread

On Island, they tested alot, and analysed on the virus (they have a big Genome firm there).
Aparrenly they found over 40 differnt mutations of the virus! and in 1 case, they found a person who carried two strains of the virus (a early strain and a mutated one).

Whats worse than haveing coronavirus?
Haveing 2 differnt verisons of it at once.

Looks like UK is going under lockdown. You can only go shopping for essential supplies like food.

You guys are like a week late to the party :)
Welcome to where the rest of the world is.

Good news is ~4-12days from now, after the incubation periode is past, the effect of it should start to show.
Keeping the rate at which it spreads under controll is gonna be vital to how many this ends up killing.

10 days ago there was only ~2,000+ infected confirmed cases in the US.
Today its like ~43,000 confirmed cases.

its crazy what just 10days can do.

I'm from italy and i seems we passed on saturday the Peak, as the Last 2 days numbers of infected people and people dying is slowing down, Hope we are on the right way, but still need time...

I was watching a video of a Chinese doctor very frustrated with how lax the quarantine is (yeah yeah China created this issue but this doctor came all the way to Italy to help). I saw another video of an Italian guy screaming at how the people in the city are not respecting the social distance protocols. I'm starting to form an opinion that some of the Italian population are not taking this seriously, which is the real issue you are facing -social ignorance. Can you give me perspective? Is it true shops are refusing to close, people buy simple items on a daily basis like cigarettes, people throwing parties in their apartments?

And tomorrow we will hit 50,000+

I calculate the doubling rate at 2.5 days.  So, 50k tomorrow, 100k Friday.

Dems are saying they dont want the majority of the money, to go to big companys (oil, coal, trumps friends, ect)..
They want to make sure the majority of it, would go to the workers and working class.

Republicans arnt transparent about where the money will go.
It might mostly just go to bailing out these big mega corps, and their shares on the stock market.
Instead of the small worker, out of a job, that might starve due to not haveing money to spend.

It takes balls to go against a bill like this, at this time, knowing the backlash that could come from it.
They probably did it for the best intrests of the common american though.

Another bill will come, that the dems can agree too.
Too early to worry yet, this is so big, the state cant afford to do nothing so some form of help will come.

Well, It's getting a bit late. The money should be in their hands now. They can't vet everyone in the time needed, that isn't possible, they just have to bite the bullet and give it to the rich also. I just hope this isn't some politicking where they'll blame Trump for relection. I didn't look into the story enough to make any assumptions but if they cared at all they should be getting down all barriers for the relief effort and if everything has to be thrown at the wall for the people who need it to get.

The actual real problem is that a lot of money going into corporations without any preconditions on how it's spent aka a repeat of 2008 aka stock buy backs instead of investing in their product or their workers. Basically a waste of money and devastating for the people. The bill was horrible and it's as simple as that. Bernie Sanders and Mitt Romney should work together to bring a bipartisan bill that actually helps people.

Sadly there are always some people where the brain is mit bigger than a little walnut, but the end i must say fortunately the most people are taking the Situation seriously, and that's the reason we are on the right way
