Really hoping this insider shit is wrong and we're all overreacting. But if this is the direction we're heading, I'm not really looking forward to gen 9 :/

Yasnoozea? I have no idea. I can't imagine they'd delay a PS5 version. Probably a similar situation to the UE5 event where it's not exclusive to Sony but Epic made sure to leave Xbox out of every interview and comment about the engine.

Yo listen Xbots, gotta call a spade a spade here. Is MS/SEGA striking a deal to not put out the PS5 version? If they are that's BS and should be called out too. I can't sit over here and be mad about FF 16 and other big moneyhats if MS and SEGA are pulling similar shit. I mean the PS5 version, hell even the PS4 version will surely outsell the SeriesX/One version combined, but we still haven't seen anything of it.

Might be prioritizing Series X, but I also do not think it's coming to game pass day one either. Either way, PS should also be getting to experience Yakuza Like a Dragon on PS5.

In regards to the MS Sega relationship, MS paid to get Phantasy Star Online 2 into the west, Sega had originally announced a western localization back in 2012 and then cancelled it, and they were perfectly content keeping it Japan only until Phil Spencer came knocking at their door. So the timed exclusivity on Phantasy Star Online 2 can't be considered a moneyhat imo, it is actually thanks to MS convincing Sega to localize the game that it will now release on PC, Switch, and Playstation as well in the west, so Sony, Nintendo, and PC fans in the west actually have Xbox to thank for getting to play the game at all.

As for Yakuza 7, the situation there is a bit trickier, we're not really sure if MS is paying for Yakuza 7 to be a next-gen timed exclusive or not. We do know that the game is on Xbox Series X at release, but not PS5, though it is on PS4 and will presumably be playable on PS5 through backwards compatibility. It seems to me that if MS were going to pay for a timed hat on it, they would have blocked the PS4 version as well so that PS5 owners couldn't even play it through BC. I'd rather say that Rya Ga Gotoku Studios resources are stretched thin right now between working on Yakuza 7 localization, Yakuza 8, and maybe Judgment 2 during covid, and they only have enough time to develop one next-gen update for 7 at a time, so MS got it first since Yakuza has been so successful on Gamepass recently. But there is some possibility that it is a hat, a strange hat, but still a hat.

I will say I have missed your level headed approach to gaming news since I was gone. So that Phantasy star deal is kind of like Cuphead in a way? Funding for development and then once the contract expired letting it on other platforms ie switch and ps4.

I think your assessment makes sense for Yakuza 7. I didn't think to much into the being stretched thin due to current times. I read it has been confirmed for PS5, just coming later. I'm also assuming it can be played via BC on PS4. And the game is also for Xbox One, just Xbox Series X enhanced. Only thing that is not currently presented is the PS5 upgrade, which like you said, they might have been stretched thin.

Judgment 2 and or 8 have been confirmed? lol Judgment 1 NEEDS to come to Xbox One. Holy fuck I loved that story. Probably the best video game story I ever played and it had great English VA. Would be nice to get 3-6 + Judgment on Xbox One. At least 3-6 before 7 launches...

In terms of Japanese support, I must say SEGA has been the best. I'm hoping we continue to get more games from SEGA. Definitely may start Phantasy Star Online as well!

Neither Judgment 2 or Yakuza 8 are in development yet, but it's a pretty safe bet that Ryu Ga Gotoku studio are developing both of them. They said they were considering a Judgment sequel after the success of the first game, while Yakuza 7 was clearly designed to start a new Yakuza series.

Wont discuss spoilers, but yeah I can see that. They needed to kind of "reboot" the story a little.

Glad Judgment did well, ffs, I really want to play that again

All I can say is, I'm definitely gonna be taking notes for all these moneyhats. It's a genuinely garbage practice for us as consumers, and I've got very little patience for it. Now, if we're talking about an exclusivity period of a month or so, fine, I don't like it, but I can stomach it. If, however, some publisher or other thinks I'm going to wait around on buying their game (at full price no less) for a year....they got another thing coming. I hope that up front check you're getting for your BS is worth it, cus I'm sure as hell not giving you my business later after you've already told me that my business is really of precious little concern to you.

Yup, this is already dampening my hype for next gen, I just hope it's shit I don't care about - Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, etc, but it sounds like it will be a lot more than that, shit practice.

Just had a thought, if these timed exclusives after their exclusivity period ended launched straight into Gamepass would that that make any of you feel better about the moneyhatting? I feel like Microsoft would be in a better position to negotiate deals too.

For example, IIRC Gamepass is paid upfront by an estimate of how many users it would cover + extra if they reach certain milestones, Microsoft could be like, well we doubt the game is going to sell that great on Xbox now considering it's been timed exclusive to PS consoles for a year, so why not just take our upfront payment (which would be lower than if it was a multiplatform release) and receive more if you reach any milestones.

If it's a game I genuinely like, from a major publisher who doesn't even need these moneyhat deals, I would be majorly put off purchasing it day one unless there's some discount or Gamepass.

I hope it's shit like Silent Hill, Street Fighter, COD. GTA, FF would suck for me, as I loved 5. Really.. really doubt GTA 6, but we'll see.

To your question. I think it depends on the game. Games like FF and GTA I'd rather play day one, so to me not really. However if it's like FF 7 R I'd be okay if that went into game pass day one, as that's not even 20% of the original game. It might help. I mean if it just waits out the exclusivity period and is put out for 70 or 60, that's really going to sour me. I feel like we're all just shooting in the dark at this point. Like FFS, we don't even know the fucking prices

I'm for sure thinking:

Silent Hill
FF16
SF6

Lot of Japanese 3rd party games I can easily see coming to PS5 first. It's the Western ones that are more tricky, as they surely will cost a lot more. I'd be fine if they got GTA 6 Online for like 6 months, not the whole game.

I doubt it's FF... or if it's FF it's going to be FF alone. FFXVI, Agni and FFVIIR is literally Squeenix putting all their eggs in one basket, and no matter how lucrative it is, I don't think they'd charge little for all three to Sony.

If they do get all three, odds are they aren't getting anything bigger. Silent Hill and maybe SF. COD, GTA, Starfield and everything else would be prohibitively expensive.

PLS PERSONA ON XBOX Not gonna happen, but still :/
