Idk if anyone watched the IGN interview with 343, but the question of why splitscreen co-op was cancelled even though players could “glitch” their way into it and Digital Foundry found it was working well was asked.

343 repeated that the amount of resources it would take to complete it is something they just can’t commit to right now. What’s even more disappointing though is that they revealed 80% of splitscreen co-op was completed!!!! How you can get that far and not finish the job, I have no idea. I guess it’s possible once they’re caught up on the live service, splitscreen could be finished then.

Once again, another sign that 343 is understaffed.

Though if they said "right now" then it may be revisited later.

Fact is though, there are so many other things which take priority over splitscreen Imo so while it sucks, I think it's the right decision.

So much time will have passed that there's honestly no point revisiting it at that point. It is what it is.

Hopefully it’s something that will be implemented when The Endless releases as I imagine last-gen will not be included in that release so they can avoid any technical limitations.

Whether splitscreen will be added in the original Infinite campaign, hard to say.

That's a smart idea, honestly, I think splitscreen is cooler when everyone is their own person, The Endless should reintroduce Blue Team and have them be the co-op players again. During Campaign it'd be cool if you could use the base thingy (forgot what it's called, Lol) to call down members of Blue Team to help, so they aren't necessarily with you 24/7 during the Campaign if playing solo but are in the cutscenes.

I really don't know how they're going to handle Xbox One in the future, I still think it's a dumb decision to support it and I'm not even sure how they go about dropping it now and at what stage they drop it.

Around the Network

With Forge and network campaign co-op being added, it would make sense to drop Xbox One support when The Endless releases. Because other than seasons, there’s nothing else major being released that would warrant dropping last-gen support.

The original Destiny dropped 360 support with the Rise of Iron expansion in 2016. And next year, Cyberpunk 2077 is dropping last-gen with their Phantom Liberty expansion.

At this point, I honestly don't care if this deal falls through. The only thing that'd suck is the rumored/reported $1 bil guarantee to Acti if that situation occurs.

It's actually $2bn - $3bn, Lol.

Activision Blizzard has to pay Microsoft a termination fee of $2,270,100,000 if:

  • MS is still waiting for the ABK stockholders meeting to happen by the termination dates.
  • Regulatory conditions were not satisfied, and the reason is a breach by ABK.
  • ABK infringes the agreement.
  • The ABK stockholders reject the deal.
  • The Activision Blizzard Board of Directors doesn't recommend the deal anymore.
  • ABK receives a better offer.

All of these are unlikely to happen, and some can't happen anymore.

Microsoft has to pay Activision Blizzard a termination fee of:

  • $2,000,000,000, if the termination notice is provided prior to January 18th, 2023.
  • $2,500,000,000, if the termination notice is provided after January 18th, 2023, and prior to April 18th, 2023.
  • $3,000,000,000, if the termination notice is provided after April 18th, 2023.

At this rate, it'll be $2.5bn at minimum since Microsoft will wait for CMA's Phase 2 which concludes in March.

Reasons for this possible termination fee in favor of ABK:

  • A court or a regulator rejects the deal and there is no way to appeal it.
  • There is a new law that prohibits this kind of deal.
  • MS infringes the agreement.
  • Regulatory conditions were not satisfied, and the reason is a breach by MS.

Yeah, that adds to the sting a bit.

It’s insane that 343 doesn’t even have a satellite studio despite being the developers of a Flagship Franchise like Halo, it’s clear that they are too small right now to handle the workload of a GAS Multiplayer game even with Certain Affinity and Skybox Labs helping.
