Done with Life is Strange: True Colors.
Really thought it would be better after getting some stellar reviews.
Technically it's a mess as I've already explained earlier. What I didn't say is that the loading times are pretty pathetic as well. This is a Series X game for god's sake and there are still 20 second loading times when transitioning from the town that serves as the hub world and the interior of a building (and vice versa of course). It even takes 20 seconds to go back to the main menu.
There really aren't a lot of places to visit. Yeah the town is nicely designed but aside from that there's almost nothing else to see. It's always start in your flat, go to bar, and then either get to records store, flower shop or park, rinse and repeat. Life is Strange 2 definitely had its issues but at least you got to see and explore new locations in every episode.
I'm gonna put up spoilers tags to discuss the story:
The beginning of the story is almost identical to Tell Me Why.
Why is the game set in 2019 when it came out 2021? Because of Covid and they didn't want anyone to wear masks? I don't need that much realism in my fictional worlds.
I hated how Gabe died at the end of the first chapter. Wasn't it still the first day that Alex and Gabe met? What a coincidence.
How stupid are these people?
This little boy Ethan (10 1/2 years old btw) has the imagination of a four year old. Am I supposed to believe that he really thinks that there's a monster living in that ravine and that's the reason he cannot cross it? Along with all the other imaginary monster stuff he comes up with.
Ryan is supposed to be a park ranger but he thinks that it's a good idea to go over the fallen tree to save Ethan instead of telling him to stay while he is crossing the ravine somewhere else and use a rope to get down to him. Or hell, maybe call for help, possibly a helicopter? Don't most parks have them in case someone is hurt somewhere that isn't accessible by car, especially in mountainous regions?
Seeing the rock hit Gabe was comical. The ravine wasn't even that deep where he fell but okay he might've died from the rock already or by falling on his head.
Chapter One done and that was the point where I pretty much stopped caring.
Jed being a bad guy did surprise me but of course he was the one responsible for John Chen's death. I couldn't keep my eyes from rolling after finding that one out.
So he's responsible for the death of John Chen, Gabe Chen and attempted murder of Alex Chen. Guess he really hates that family. Wouldn't surprise me if he was also responsible of the illness that killed Alex' mom....
Life is Strange 1 is still by far the best in the series. This one doesn't come close.
7/10
