As far as western studios go, I think anyone still asking Microsoft to acquire more publishers needs slow down a bit. In my opinion, they really need to focus on integrating what they have and getting a good content release cadence established.
If they were going to acquire another publisher, my only hope would be that it would be Japanese. It’s the one hole in their current content roster, they have more or less everything else that they need. |
I would say that it does not have to be a Japanese publisher but also say it does not have to be Western one either. The portfolio MS is building is for a diverse audience so any Dev or publisher is on the menu and not limited to just Western and Japan. |
You are probably right, and I’m probably just letting personal preferences get in the way.
I will say this much though: 2 years ago, there were 6 major western publishers in the industry (ABK, EA, Embracer, Take-Two, Ubisoft, Zenimax) and Microsoft has already brought two into the fold. If you are at all interested in western games output, I don’t know why you wouldn’t at a minimum own a cheaper gaming PC or Series S as a side device, and at a maximum fully move over to the MS ecosystem. In my personal opinion I think a Japanese publisher would go the farthest to bolstering content diversity and selling fence sitters on moving over
