The leaderboard tracking has been a thing on FH 3 and 4 it's basically the first Danger sign it takes you on at the start of the game, I'm sure someone will compile the data and compare it at some point.

An understandable line of thought.
Like, sure, MS has ownership of enough interesting characters/IP that would lend themselves well to making something like a Smash clone....BUT, you're going to annoy a whole lot of people if, for example, you start sticking characters like Banjo, or Conker in a mash-up game like that, while you've done nothing but ignore those characters and their respective franchises forever. You can't hold something up to people like you're proud of it, value it, and tell people "yea, we're so excited to have so and so be part of this, and we know you will be too..." while simultaneously telling audiences that those characters actually just aren't important enough to be headliners in their own right. It's not a good look.
